yeah theses cars are tanks. a month or so ago we drove this car through a wall. (not on purpose) And there was just one scratch and a few paint chips. the falling bricks from the brick wall didnt even dent the hood, just chipped the paint in a couple spots. Great cars.

These last along time if people take care of them and do things right on repair/maintenance. Yours looks good. I hate it when people get nice old stuff, and trash it, and only really care about how the stereo sounds.

With better breathing ported heads and a cam, on a 305, you can get good HP. Im installing a estimated 325hp 305 in the impala.

post #2- turn crank so dampner points to Zero on the pointer. Rotor will either point at number 1 plug wire or be 180 deg off. After install chain, did you -turn crank without disributor put in? I think crank makes 2 turns to make 1 turn of distributor. You also need to make sure the oil pump shaft is fitted into bottom of distrib.

80 and '81 had different grilles and woodgrain on the dash. '81 had an inlaid design in the woodgrain. The fabrics were different too. '81 was a bit classier. The '80 interior was almost disco-ish on some Parisienne/Bonnevilles.

@wissn211217 жыл бұрын
I don't mind a few upgrades, like stronger cargo coils in the back so the back end dosn't sag down. It depends on how nice the car is for other options. Radios can be swaped back with out hacking if you take your time. My 80 (youtube)is too far gone for putting money into it other than good maintanance.
@11paterj16 жыл бұрын
its not good in the city, but it's incredible on the highway - for the car.

I had an '81 Bonneville (USA version of the Parisienne). Same color. The only difference was that in had the wire wheel covers. A great car. It would have been better as a Brougham.

Would any of you be hankering for a 1981 Bonneville/Parisienne Safari Diesel wagon these days? My maternal grandparents had one (the Bonneville Safari) for a short time in the early 1990s. The diesel is an Oldsmobile 5.7L unit which was not generally well-received.

I probably wouldn't go with air shocks. Find some large heavy rear coils for lift, and support for any bodies in the trunk you may haul around. LOL. I got sick of pumping them up all the time when they get old. Larger wire diamater wont squash as much, so the total length may be shorter than stock length. Try your salvage yard.

You may have spark ,but is it going to the right cylinder under the compression stroke? When taking off the chain/gears, Did you move the crank or cam independently before the new gear/chain was put on? The key ways on the cam is alittle tricky. Look for another reply=
@katskratchkustumz14 жыл бұрын
@11paterj true, but if you are getting stuck with a front wheel drive and accelerate too much you lose your ability to steer
@11paterj15 жыл бұрын
yeah but i dont mean like the kind where it jacks it up five feet, or down until the oil pan touches the ground, just rear shocks. Cause i occasionally pull a trailer, and with a couple hundred pounds of tongue weight, it sits really low. My dad's buick Estate Wagon had that, its self leveling. But you can also get it with a little air valve in place of one of your rear lisence place mounts for a manual controll, a cheaper option. My Dads Parisienne had that.

Yeah they definately shared some traits with the Grand Prix. I'm thinking of putting air suspension in the rear so the ass doesnt ride so low when i have three people in the back and a trunk full of stuff.
@11paterj15 жыл бұрын
no, they arenet great in the winter because they are rear wheel drive. modern cars are way lighter, but they are usually front wheel drive, where the engine weight is good for traction.

@Justin-A-Carter16 жыл бұрын
Those new cars are made of crap. plastic and cheap re-used metal. I just love the throaty sound those 4 barrel chevies make when you opened it up some. It was a big upgrade from the old 81 Plymouth Caravelle. Felt like you jumped in a limo. WE bought ours from an old man who got a mountian of speeding tickets with it. he said he was caught, and was so upset when he sold our parisenne to us. in my day. we also had a 79 Chevy Impala, police package... that son of a gun would fly

here in France it's possible to start to drive when you're 16 but you have to drive with a confirmed driver next to you until you're 18, or you can get the real driver licence when you're 18. but here we have to take about 30 hours of driving lessons, because nearly all the cars here are 5 speed manual, and not automatics... an american girl told me there weren't any driving school in the United States, is it the same in Canada ?

exactly what i mean by cars back then were built strong but hey, if u get a ina crash with that on the highway, ur car might survive, but you will bash ur face on the dash ...but hey man for the sake of argument, thats a nice car and chances are, when ur driving it (if its yours) you will be very cautious amnd not get into an accdient in the first place...just hope the people around u have a brain to drive LOL we have to many idiots on the roads these days...

Do you live in Canada or USA? In Canada the Bonneville was built and named a Parisienne. It was built on the Caprice chassis, so has a Chevrolet 305 as opposed to the American Bonneville which was equipped with a Pontiac V8.
