I have a R100CS which is impossible kick start. Best to carry a small pair of jumper cables which I have never needed. The voltmeter actually works. They came with the most complete tool kit in the business and my European model even has a first aid kit. Shaft drives are not quick from a standing start but these things are quick enough at passing speed, 40 tp 80 mph. After all we are talking 1000 cc here. Love the analog quartz clock in my sport fairing. High gloss black with gold pin striping makes them look great.

I see this RT is in Summer configuration - lower fairing removed to improve air flow over those very efficient foot warmers! The foot warmers are the best in the MC world in winter, not so good in summer! I love how the weight is low and the bike is easy to flick from side to side whilst cornering. especially through roundabouts. then love the sound as I accelerate out of the corner or roundabout. I love the very distinctive German styling with the fairing (same with the RS fairing). Modern bikes and fairings look like they came out of a comic book. Some modern fairings and weird shaped headlights look silly to me. In Australia, in 1983, th R100RT retail price was AU$7,200. In 1983, I went to buy a new RT and sell my R100RS cos did not like leaning forward for long distance. The dealer had an 1981 model for sale with 5,000 km that was used by motorcycle journalists to ride long distance and write up for their magazine. It then sat idle at the importers for two years. Bought the 1981 (green) for AU$4,800. Did a lot of long distance miles on it til bought a house with my GF and you guessed it, sold the RT in 1991. After that, pretty much did not ride bikes for 33 years! No woman in my life at the moment, so, no impediment to buying a bike. Had to have the same model! Just bought an identical year model and colour a few weeks ago. Love riding it. Enjoying it all over again. It needs some minor work and some TLC. Riding it a few days ago, it suddenly became very noisy, first thought, blown a hole in the exhaust. looked down, no left muffler! retraced my ride and found it on the side of the road. After it cooled enough to hold it, I cradled it and road home. Into town in the car and bought some 304 steel hex head screws and spring washers bolted it back and replaced a missing screw from RH muffler. My plan is to go from front to rear, and replace repair any sus parts over time. Plan to replace the perf stainless steel brake discs with solid cast iron which work better in the wet. I did not realise that except for the ignition system, there is no electronics on the bike! A lot less things to go wrong. Also looking at buying a R100/7 with an S fairing from a buddy of mine, been sitting in his workshop for 35 years! (he is a car mechanic, now retired) Thanks for adding the video to KZbin.
