It brought a tear to my eye, when I came across this advert. I had a 2.8GL when I was 18 years old. It was the nicest car I ever had, and that is the truth. I am 43 now, and seeing this advert, makes me want to get another one. These cars were so ahead of their time. The quality of this video is superb, and thanks ever so much for sharing it.

Had a "facelift" MkII Ghia & YES! They are goody laden. Shame so many of these have been banger raced to death. BTW voice-over at very end is Patrick Allen, who voice-overed many ads.

I was about to say you were wrong about the last bit being Patrick Allen but I thought I'd listen again before I shot my mouth off and it obviously is! Who is the rest of it, though? I don't think it is Nettles, but it has a certain Nettlesy twang.

Great to see this from 1981 I presume as the facelift was introduced in October that year. It's almost identical to mine in champagne metallic and mocha chatsworth trim. Thanks for uploading :)

My entire life I've been surrounded by those wonderful cars . I've owned hundreds and sold hundreds. I still own four today and although two are police cars they have amazing charm and character. Remember being 12 when the facelift came out and I wanted one from day one . Had a MK1 for four years then a MK2 for thirty

Narrator's usual car was a MKIV Zephyr with bald tyres, terminal rust and a smoky engine. Bob threw the keys at his forehead on Monday morning! 😊

Better with an automatic, as this made driving a lot easier if you had a 2.8, but a manual five speed 2.3 was a better compromise if you wanted a V6, but wanted economy above 30 mpg on a long journey. Always found the 2.0 a bit slow and basic inside, but this was the entry model that few people would choose. On the whole, a very good car that beat the Rover SD1 for build quality, reliability and equipment on lesser models, but the Rover had the legendary V8 on its top models.

I would love to have had a Ford Granada like this one, the year this ad was I was aged shitty 13 I wish I had been aged 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 or even aged 24 or 25 instead of grotty 13 and I would have been out and away from grotty old school and working fulltime and earning decent wages instead of having to waited another 3 years to turn 16 the then legal aged to quit school and either go to higher education or go to employment to earn a paypacket weekly or monthly.

Looking back, through rose tinted spectacles obviously, Fords in the Eighties were so much more desirable than the hideous SUV and EV dross they produce today. Think I'll just pop back to 1982 and order myself a nice Granada Ghia instead of that socking great computer laden battery pack on stilts and 4 wheels. I may be some time. Especially as I fancy a 2.8i Capri too. And those new Sierras look rather svelte. I wonder what one of those would be like with a Cosworth engine and a preposterously large, but utterly glorious whale tail spoiler installed. And imagine how good they'd be if Jackie Stewart helped develop it. Yup, I'm definitely going to stay a while. Don't wait up, will you.

The first car I bought at 18 (in ‘84) was a ‘79 Diamond White 2.8 Ghia Auto which even had factory aircon. I then bought in 1987, a late ‘81 (X-reg) Cardinal Red 2.8 Injection Auto. I loved both at the time but, looking back, I actually think the original Mark IIs with shorter bumpers and black small-slat grille were cleaner looking.

You could also specify optional air conditioning on the Ford Granada Ghia to make the cabin cooler on warm days and in conjunction with the heat / vent system in winter demists the windows and windscreen quicker.
