With the 3 wide cart up on the back of Gammalite there was just interest in how far the winning margin. Vinny just couldn't hold Poppy anymore, once let go down the back was one of the great moments in harness racing. After this race in October 1982, Popular Alm went on to win 23 of his next 24 starts in Aust. before tragically breaking-down.

I'm interested to hear how people feel Poppy would have gone against Preux Chevalier

Barry Perkins said preux chevalier didnt have the short burst of speed that poppy had but if he had the front in a race against him he could build up to top speed and sustain it and that would have meant poppy couldnt just fly around them. would be a dream match up over a few different distances
