As a kiwi I find it strange how Australians didn't embrace the rotary quite like we did. How can you someone not marvel at the engineering of those cars, crowd pleasers and such a unique engine to operate

There was a strong accusation of sandbagging from Brock to Moffat after this race. Brock reckoned that once he got in front, Moffat should have just run away from him rather than only just winning and that he wasn't going anywhere near as fast as he could have in order to make CAMS believe that he was "struggling" with the 12A engine and had to push it to the limit to be competitive. By the next race at Oran Park.....CAMS had approved use of the 13B rotary for the Mazda's (though it didn't come into affect until 1 August and the Oran Park race was on 29 May). However, the Commodore's and Falcon's also got upgrades which boosted their own performance levels.

That gives the humble 12A even more credibility

I love how the only thing you can hear on the start in these videos is Moffat's Mazda.

Exciting race, I like the shorter races where it's wheel to wheel every lap.

Hey, nice job. I was wondering about this race. Great track. It is a shame that track is lost forever just like Oran Park, Amaroo and most likely others years to come.

Thanks for these; even as a 12 year old living in Bendigo back then, I remember watching the post race interviews and wondering why Moffat was often cranky; now in my mid-40's living in Melbourne I am more aware of motoring mental fatigue...

Great with all the different brands , engine configurations. Certainly the 2nd fastest ford was lapped by a 1.3 litre rotary & needed a lot my help from Cams than the Holden’s. Having said that , my uncle was a boss at Cams in Melbourne and said before he died , “ if they were ever investigated , cams bosses would all be in jail for what they done since 1973.
