@jason9022 - problem was that Olds (who made the 5.7L V8 for ALL GM divisions) made fewer changes to their gas-powered equivalent (Chevy's 5.7-350) than they should've had... The NA-V8 diesel weren't as "from-the-ground-up" as other diesel engines were. OTOH, the Olds 4.3L NA-V6 diesel was built "from-the-ground-up" and didn't fared as bad as the V8. There wasn't a modern V6 gas equivalent until Chevy made one years later...

The engines in the Chevrolet El Camino were from: 3.8 Liter V6 by Buick 5.0 Liter V8 by Chevrolet 5.7 Liter V8 diesel by Oldsmobile As a matter of fact the engines were availble to other GM midsized platforms: Chevrolet Malibu Chevrolet Monte Carlo Pontiac LeMans which later renamed Bonneville in 1982 Pontiac Grand Prix Buick Century Buick Regal Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme GMC El Diablo

@port nut none taken. But can you explain why a lighter flywheel would be bad? I'm new to the car world, and I'd like to learn more.
@johnwayne74764 жыл бұрын
A camero or corvette l78 350 upgraded to a 400 crank 383 would be awesome tpi . Or a 400 SBC with a tri power setup works great to . Fuel injection is great but car-berating a engine properly will provide almost equal mpg and performance when tuned properly. I like a torque engine. With a decent high gear . Like a 12 bolt locker in 347 . Combine that with a 700r 4 and then you have hot rod when wanted with a 70% overdrive for highway travel. No 454 for me please. They blow up when I drive them . Never happened with a 400 SBC though and I felt the same power . A 401 is possibly the best pickup engine I have driven

They will mever make a car this easy and afordable again. It's all about profit margins and not what you want or need. Now car companies tell you what "you" want. They don't listen. They produce whatever makes the most money for them. Finance for extremely long times and defects and recalls are at their highest ever levels due to farming out labor to foreign countries. My uncle has the conqista model. It still runs but it's pretty rusty.

La El Camino è un pickup eccellente e anche se la cilindrata è 5000 V8 ha dei consumi veramente contenuti, comodissima specialmente oggi con tutti i dossi che hanno installato.

Is this model still frequent on american roads?
@compu853 жыл бұрын
No. They were somewhat niche to begin with. They also tend to rust away. The "standard" pickups were, and are much more common.

Gotta love the jute padding you forget to shut the Windows when it rains and the jute soaks up the water and you got no floor pans in a week

El Camino "Royal Knight", now I don't think I ever recall seeing one in that trim. But the standard, Conquista and SS, yes at one point or another.

That trim option i do'nt recall seeing many myself! I did see one at a car show a few yrs ago i think it was a 1978 or '79 EL camino.
