1983 Dodge Ram B250 Conversion Van Junkyard Find with Goodies. You know the deal. I love checking out old vans. Just never know what you're going to find. This time we got a big old Mopar from the early 80s. This 83 Dodge Ram B250 had the full conversion treatment thought by now was in pretty rough shape. The exterior wasn't too bad and was only missing the hood. This one alsonhad a top added for more head room. This one had some goodies as well like MSD ignition box, coil and ping controller. It also arrived in the yard with a Holley electronic carburetor/throttle body but was gone by the time I got to It. There were also cool Stewart Warner gauges.

I think I would have yanked all those gauges and control buttons, the tilt, the MSD setup, and maybe the whole overhead piece over the visors if it's a separate unit. And the grille, it's a custom unit. And dig through the rest of it and see if the electronic carb is in it. I pulled an over-the-visor console out of a Chevy van and I've had it in every G van I've driven since. Not that you couldn't make another easy enough but it's neat having the storage up there and I put the radio in it too.

Whoa Nelley, it's a van, man and it's given up all it can. Here we go with the VIN: 2 for Canadian made, B for Dodge Division, 7 for Truck, H for 6,001 to 7,000# GVWR rating, B for Dodge Van/Motorhome Van, 2 for 250 Series 3/4 ton rating, 3 for Van, U for 318 V8 with four barrel, 7 is a check digit, D for the 1983 model year, K for Pillette Road Truck, Windsor Ontario Canada assembly (which closed in 2003) and the rest is the production sequence. Possible VW3 Pearl White exterior paint, tough to read.

@@garymckee8857 That is correct. The last year for the "B" Series vans was 2003. That same year the Dodge Sprinter came to be for the Dodge line. Of course, that was made in Germany. Freightliner will no longer sell their version of the Sprinter after the 2021 model year. It will be MB branded product only.

I would've liked to have seen the T.O.N. sticker on that 1, but the hood was gone. That's a 1 ton Dana rear with 8 lugs and HD brakes. The sticker would've shown if it was factory, or upgraded from the conversion dealer. Hard to say if it has the 1 ton suspension or just the 1 ton rear and brakes, bolted on the 3/4 ton suspension. I've seen many Dodge vans that had several pieces mismatched from the factory! U motors were Cali and hi altitude emissions only for US sale. If it was sold in Canada, that's a different story..

Damn, this thing's a pricey limo! The wood and white interior aged really nicely, the ceiling is what modern upscale houses look like nowadays! Shouldn't have left it sittin' outside, but that's the thing with conversion vans. Reason why I HATE homes with tiny garages or none at all. This is a specially made one, I have faith it can run again. Too bad about the rust and the rodent homes...

It's a B250, so it would have had the 3/4 ton rear axle. Unless you were hauling heavy or towing most people would have gotten the lighter duty B100 which would have been cheaper and a better ride. Then again I'm no expert on vans and maybe since this was the longest one available it only came as a 250.

@@kennethsouthard6042 I always thought only the B350 only came with the 8lug HD Axle. I didn't know the B250 had the 8lug, always thought the B250 was a heavy half ton.

@@davidlandon6947 I think the last 8.75" rear axle was produced in 1974 and most Chrysler vehicles have switched over to the 8 1/4" by 1972.
