Bicherova has to be the most underrated World and European champion ever! It's a shame, too. I know she was underage, but she was still an amazing gymnast. Her floor routine here is such a delight: so expressive with gorgeous presentation, perfectly Soviet. I love it.

Stoyanova was way a head of her time on floor! Pike full- in mount, whip immediate double back second pass, double full down the side and tuck full-in dismount in 1983 and she nailed all her landings! That was harder than many routines today still! Her routine blew all the others out of the water and I think her score was way too low. What were the judges thinking?
@jdlove41835 жыл бұрын
Wow I l also love how Szabo went for the cartwheel full on the beam! Amazing! I believe she and the American Michelle Dusserre were the first to do that. Szabo also dismounts with a full-in on floor which she also did in the 84 Olympics to win the gold on floor there! A shame we didn't get to see the other Eastern Block gymnasts at the 84 Games due to the boycott.

Yes, I agree it is a shame we didn't see them all in the '84 olympics. I really do think if they'd all been there that Mary Lou Retton would not have won

super close competition between Bicherova and Agache!!

I thought Shishova was totally underscored. Bicherova was so sloppy, overscored on just about every apparatus.

@@admetric I agree, She was underscored on vault as Bitcerova was overscored.

It's a shame Agache was sick at the 84 Olympics. She was a lovely gymnast. I much prefer her to Szabo.

Where are the Asian gymnasts at this competition? They are ALWAYS the best on bars and beam.

These are some great routines. But do you think there was some sort of doping going on? Girls were soooo small and thin at even 17 years old. I would like to know how tall they became after gymnastics.

I know they started using springs in on floor, but this floor literally looks like a piece of foam. Does anyone know if it was sprung?

Can anyone tell me the name of the floor music playing during Agache's bar routine? It's at 4:06.

Tchaikovsky's piano concerto 1 - in the 1984 Nadia film, the gymnast playing Ludmilla Turischeva at the Paris exhibition performs a floor routine to this piece.

What's the difference between a Jaeger and a Comaneci Salto on uneven bars?
@VideosByMe098 жыл бұрын
+spartyutube The difference is in the approach to the front salto before the regrasp of the bar. In a Comaneci salto, the athlete kips up pushes off her hips and front flips to regrasp. A jaeger comes out of a full front swing before the salto. Because of the greater swing into the skill, a jaeger and be piked and even performed straight (layout). Nastia Liukin had a beautiful layout jaeger in her routines from 2007-8. The comaneci is done rarely now a days. Vanessa Atler had one in her routine in the late 1990s; however, it caused her difficulty as she only successfully competed it a handful of times. If you look up the two skills on youtube, watch for the entry -- it's pretty noticeable when you compare.

Nadia's so called salto is just another version of some else's somersault - Janz. The Book - Love of Gymnastics by Nik Stuart described it as a version of the Radochla.

judges sure made sure the Soviet won the all around. Bicherova is my least favorite big time Soviet gymnast. She sure got the excessive waving down pat.
@juanl.24115 жыл бұрын
I don't understand Olga bicherova's success at all, she was just sloppy and overrated, after this competition she basically vanished and was never heard of winning medals again, her all around title in 1981 was also a farce and filatova should have won outright
@MrMartinportnoy4 жыл бұрын
I agree she was terribly sloppy ar the '81 Worlds, but she improved her style at the '82 World Cup. She was inconsistent at the '83 Worlds and didn't even make it to the AA, but went on competing at the Soviet Nationals & USSR Cup until '85 and her last international competition was the '88 Champions All (she was supposedly 22 there).
