What made these bikes so fast in the commercial was that the riders heard banjo music and knew they needed to get outa there fast.

These old commercials are great. In 1983 I was 13, still riding my XR100, but dreaming of that 350 and that 500. I’m still a Honda man to this day.

me too i have two honda 600R’s today. We raced for team honda in the baja 1000 in 1984. trained in Pismo, Devils slide and the hilly sections of Santa Maria. i still ride to this day all over california,nevada,and other near by towns.

I miss my XL500R greatly. I used to have permission to ride it on a tank gunnery range in Germany. Acres and acres of trails through the forest and fast sandy tracks everywhere.

I have owned many many bikes and am 65 years old. My 83 XL350R was fantastic. It can be seen on youtube on the Dennis Berg channel. He was my friend and passed away eight years ago, and rode a XL600R. I rode them both and the 350 was the victor, out-handled the 600 by miles.

That torque was no joke. My buddy had a 2 stroke Suzuki that he though would run rings around my 350xl, His Suzuki rapped out with high rpms, but on a very long steep inclined hill it just ended dogging out towards the top. My XL just kept that deep throated roar all the way up, never an issue.

Until someone showed up with a CR500......XR were always great bikes. But true power came from the big bore 2 stroke. (Had an 84)

What a blast from the past!!! i was 12 when these came out. I now own a 98 XR400 I rebuilt from the frame up and wouldn't part with it for anything. Honda just don't make them like this anymore but if they re-released the XR's again I'd be lined up for one!

I rode an 84 XR500, two different 84 XL350's, and a 2000 XR650L. I loved riding all of them, both on the road and in the dirt. Then I got old and now I ride a 2020 Grom.

Cool bikes great commercial brings back a lot of memories. Had a mint 86 600L back in mid 90's. Bike was perfect. Bought a new KDX 220 and realized how much better suspension and brakes had become. Riding many bikes between then and now but currently have a new CRF450L. Bike is really good and brings back memories of my ATC200s.

These old commercials make me think of Jack Murphy stadium here in San Diego watching Supercross., Back in the early 80’s there used to be a guy named Doug something he was the “wheelie king” and before every race he would ride a wheelie around the entire track. My first bike was an 92 Honda XR200 then an XR650 with the Baja Designs kit. Now I have a Rebel 400 to check the surf and Cruise the 101.

Hang on to it. I had a 95 250, and it was incredible. Not the most powerful, but man I was fast in the woods on that thing. Now ride a 650L and it’s great, but no way I’d try to ride it like I did my old 250!

I drive a 83 XL600R perfect stock condition, low mileage with collector plates, with PD Mitas 50/50 tires, it's the funnest bike ever to ride on the roads, that growling engine turns heads! In the ad they should have mentioned the two carb set up, pretty awesome when that second carbs starts breathing!

I had an XR350 it was a great bike. Loved the shape of the tank. Could stay on the back wheel all day if you wanted to. New bikes don’t have a real fuel tank anymore.

Still think those bikes looked great. Had trouble getting the XR200 in the UK. So I ended up with a Suzuki PE175, very peaky though.

i love the xr’s but to me they’ve just played themselves with the wording. “you think 4 stroke dirt bikes are tame” and then “it has a wide power range” so you’ve tamed it down with that power range. right sweet.

Had xl500, xl600, xr650L, and yammy xt600. The xt600 was the best, Until they ruined it around 1990 when they went to electric start steel rims less suspension heavier and a more street orientated design.

Had one of the ist Honda XR 500 prolink's in the country back in the day, I've had many different makes and models the 510 husky was probably a better bike dare I say it. I have recently sold my mint XR650R but I always preferred the XR 500 great bike 🇬🇧
