Well Mr. Kaplan, I'm glad to see you like the bike. I'm the guy you bought it from. I really hated to let it go, but I knew if anyone could find someone who really appreciates this little time capsule it would be you. It may seem like just another minibike, but think of how many legendary careers were started on the KX60. I put some time and effort into making sure I kept it as original as possible, and on two wheels. Like you, I found out how much power that little monster had by getting a little happy with the throttle. Luckily, I only let the front tire rise up a couple inches before fear of a hospital bill kicked in. I'm 6' 5" and 230, and that thing would scare me if I let it. Enjoy the bike. I really hope it gets tucked away into a collection somewhere.

I'm your size and had a kx 80 when I was 28 that little rubber band threw me off like nothing trying to whelli I messed my knee up so bad I still feel it today @ 51 my kx 2022 250 can't jump up like that little bike.i actually think it can hang with my 250 for a bit!! I hope you're still riding also! And I adore that bike.....

Blast from the past. Mini Cycle rider magazine I believe it was called covered(early 1980s) all 50-100cc motocross bikes. I was 14 in 1983. What a time it was. Thanks much for the flash backs.

Wow that thing is mint!! I had one of these when I was 10. My older brother rode it, hit the powerband, the front wheel came up on him unexpectedly and it almost flipped him off of the back. Years later after I sold it i would have a recurring dream that I went out in my shed and it was still there.

These small 2 strokes are a blast and actually can be much more fun than a larger displacement bike. Back in the day on the trails in the fields and also the tracks they were so enjoyable. I am still looking for a sweet YZ, RM, or KX 80 to have fun on!

Oh my god. I started racing on one of these when I was a kid. My dad knew a fella had one from new in 83 and he never rode it. Neither did his kids so he sold it to my dad and I won a good few different races then I got a Yamaha ya 125. What a bike I haven’t seen one since the one I had 😂. Brilliant work Kaplan team.

Those were amazing bikes! Had '85 KX80 i raced. Almost put 100cc kit on it.. but sold for ATV bk then. My son has '06 RM85 BW now its a BEAST. 25hp.

A kid down the block when I was growing up had a brand new 83 RM60. By then I had a YZ125, but one day hopped on that little 60 and was surprised at how quick it was. Fun little bike.

I had a 1998 model and that was very fun. Used 6 large washers at the bottom of the rear spring to hold adult weight better

I bought a kx60 for my son to race when he turned 7, he raced the old peewee 50cc prior. God what a massive learning curve. All of a sudden he had gears, a clutch and the power that put 1,000's of Dad's on their backs lol. In fact when I bought it, the owner of the bike store warned me. His words were something like this: If you're going to try this out, be very careful it's the highest power to weight ratio bike money can buy and it will kick you off before you realise what's happened. To cut a long story short, I took my son, and his new bike, to my sister's farm to teach him how to ride it, get used to the gears etc. I got on it to show him "how it's done" the front wheel was up before I hit 2nd gear and was up at every gear change. When I gave him the bike, after one lap of the paddock, he said wow dad you can really ride! I said that's not me, that's your bike and I will NEVER ride it again! Brilliant bike for kids but so very dangerous for adults. You need to be light enough to allow the back wheel to spin when the power ban kicks in, otherwise it's an instant front wheel off the ground. You're a game man to ride it on the road. I bet your heart skipped more than a few beats hahaha

What a beauty, I’d love to know the stories behind some of these time capsule pieces. Some must be the rare 12yr old with more OCD then hyperactivity. My dad had toys as a kid from the 50’s he wasn’t allowed to play with. My grandfather really made sure that trait got passed down.

I just bought a 1998 kx60 for $500 after not having a bigger bike for a few months since i sold em all. Gotta say this thing was 100% worth it. I did have to do some things to it such as oil change, coolant flush & fuel flush but she starts up & looks great!

Ken, if you want to do another '75 KM100 i have one i'd let go cheap. runs great, cylinder looks like new and starts on the first kick. but needs restoration. i had it sold this fall but the buyer backed out last minute.

So sad todays little kids will not learn to ride on the 2 strokes like i did. No 4 stroke packs a punch in the 60cc or 80cc.like the old 2 strokes. First ride was on buddies yamaha 60, i was hooked st 6 yrs.old. 59 and I remember that ride luke it was yesterday. I have a water cooled kx60 I’m gonna throw on my sons lt80 after it takes a crap. He rides pretty hard and he’s only 7. I have the lt80 on a 2mil big bore and she does right around 30mph. Can’t wait to see what happens when I put a hot rod crank kx60 on that chassis!

TruckLoads of family fun! Maybe you help my son and I with some KX60 info... We have a 94KX60, paid my good buddy pal $300 DirtBikeBucks for it needing a top end rebuild. Which my son completed on his own at 12, then fired that baby up. I digress, my buddy who we bought it from told us that it is a rare bike due to it having a chrome frame.
