I think that people wish the older stadiums in general were still around. I personally grew up at Milwaukee County Stadium.🏟 I spent my spring and summers from 1977-1989 there. Even a few times in the 90's as well. I got to see Robin Yount's 3,000th hit. Iconic pitchers like Jim Palmer, Gaylord Perry, Nolan Ryan, Ron Guidry, Mike Caldwell, Lary Sorensen, and Moose Haas. Hitters like again Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Gorman Thomas, Ben Oglive, Cecil Cooper, and Jim Gantner. As well as other teams batters like Fred Lynn, Jim Rice, Thurman Munson(RIP), Reggie Jackson, Cecil Fielder, George Brett, Cal Ripken Jr., Rickey Henderson, Ken Griffey, Kirby Puckett, and so many others! The memories those older 🏟stadiums🏟 brought people are very special and bring back times of joy,😊 happiness, peace, and friends!😊 Tailgating, playing catch in the parking lot before the games. Eating those concession stand Hot 🌭 Dogs, AFTER you grilled out! LOL! Getting a group of buddies, loading up the car and heading to the ballpark! For some, not me, especially in the 70's, I was a kid, having a few 🍻🍺beers🍺🍻 as well as🍿popcorn🍿🥜peanuts🥜🍦ice-cream🍦, and🍬candy!🍭 Eating till your belly hurt! Agreed i hate how loud the syadiums have become w guaudy led boards its tv everywhere it looks so awful , like the rule for al parks were that they had to be clean to the eye, and appealing to look at. Parks are our churches and cathedrals to this game, which is representive of life of course, but thats not the poont. Even when oriole park was built they had to ask special permission to put ads on the wall, tasefull limited ads with old style borders. And eli jacobs and co were granted it. Now its silly...

For me as a 13 year old, the '83 ASG is my most memorable because until this game all other All Star games that I had watched were won by the N.L. . Great season as my Orioles won the World Series.

Next year was Better :) as We Detroiters got to watch the Best Start in Baseball History ever and is still Untouched to this day ,, and hey the World series win wasnt too bad either , Since you bring up the Orioles , my fav was the 79 series with them Vs the Pirates . so many greats on both teams !

I agree totally. Although ABC was good too. I loved how they switched coverage of the WS, playoffs and all-star games. I was not accepting CBS when they got it. No disrespect to Jack Buck, Jim Kaat, etc. I ended up not watching CBS as much until the playoffs. I did more ESPN, TBS, WGN AND local coverage.

My last All Star Game with my Dad, while I lived at home. The 1989 All Star Game was the last one we saw together. The Bo Jackson show!! We lived 45 minutes from Royal Stadium. Now Kaufman Stadium.

Dave Steib, the starting AS game pitcher -- in 1983.... had a 17-12 record on a crappy team, had an era of 3.04 over 278 innings and 4 shutouts... took a no hitter into the 8th inning, and got ZERO Cy Young award votes from any voters. Oh, and he lapped the field in WAR, with a pitching WAR of 7.0. No other pitcher in the league was even in his neighborhood. LaMarr Hoyt, the Cy young winner had a WAR of 3.7, only 260 IP, and an ERA of 3.66. AS game voting is where fans decide who's the best. Cy Young voting is where baseball writers decide who they like, not who's the best. LOL

In Palm Springs (ca.), the Angels played spring games there and Cecil Cooper was in left field. They let you in with coolers of beer and we enticed Cecil to a tall can of Shlitz! He came over, stuck it in his jersey after the 3rd out! Love you Cecil!

Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola were two of the best voices to ever call a baseball game. This game had a boatload of future Hall of Famers including Rod Carew, Johnny Bench, Dave Winfield, Ozzie Smith, George Brett, Rickie Henderson, Carl Yastrzemski, Jim Rice, Cal Ripken Jr., and Mike Schmidt. Now that's a ball game to see.

Dickie Thon could've been a HoFer at SS. In 1983 he was not only in the AS game but also won a SS, was 7th in MVP voting and was first in WAR among NL position players. In '84 he started the season .353/.389/.471 when he was drilled in the eye w/ a pitch and was never the same player again

There were three future HOFers on those Astros teams back then....Dickey Thon, J.R. Richard and Joe Sambito. Thon was beaned and never the same, J.R. Richard had that drug induced stroke so he was more or less out, and Joe Sambito developed arm trouble that forced him to retire.

I was an excitable 12 year old Orioles' fan laying on the floor of my Aunt & Uncle's Bethalto, Illinois home on that hot summer night. My mom was struggling with her own personal demons, so I was sent to Illinlos while she worked it out. Baseball was my refuge, it took away all of my pain and apprehension, and immersed me into my own "Narnia," if you will. My love affair with the game has grown through the years, and it was Fred Lynn's grand slam that helped this 12 year old boy fall in love with the greatest game I have ever known.... Outside of catcher and centerfield, they were weak down the middle. Name a big time Expos shortstop or second baseman. Contrasting that, Pitt had Garner at 2nd&Foli at shortstop, Philly had Trillo/Cash at 2nd, and Bowa at shortstop. Raines played a little second, but was not good enough with the leather, so the Expos moved him to the outfield. And, Philly had Carlton on the mound, that is why they won one WORLD TITLE, and two NL league pennants and five East flags in 9 years..that, and Schmidt. Carlton in his career played on 3 WORLD CHAMPS, five NL PENNANT winners, was a star on four of the latter- 67&68 Cards, Phils 80&83, rookie on one- 64..ST.LOU., That is why...

Fun game to watch. Thanks for the upload. Interestingly, Vin and Joe at one point in the game talk about, because of free agency, Yaz and Bench maybe being the last stars to play their whole career with one team. This is Interesting due to the fact that also in the game are Brett, Yount, Whittaker, Ripken, Schmidt, and Rice who would all play their whole, long careers with one team.

They came back from a commercial and there were a bunch of old guys surrounding the mound, but other than Lefty Gomez who threw out the first pitch, none was individually introduced or shown in closeup. Amazing, the 50th anniversary of the MLB in 1983 the pre game coverage was better than anything FOX has done in the last 20 years!? Bring back NBC, ABC or CBS to do the All Star Game or the World Series please!! FOX & ESPN have to go!!
