Jacobi had retired because he had had a really bad crash at Charlotte like five years before this, wanted to come back, reminiscent of Neal Bonnet only Bruce suffered and didn't die until 4 years later.

When a car flips, that's one thing. Jacobi's car was practically LEAPING and then hitting the ground hard.

Those tough old bastards thought they were safe. They often bragged of how safe their cars were. The only thing that amazes me is that far more didn’t get killed or permanently damaged than did. I’m thankful for the modern safety improvements of today but that’s all. It doesn’t even interest me to watch today’s NASCAR.

Wayne Swicegood Wayne there was still 30 fatalities at Daytona google it!!Not counting the ones that died due to fires!!Fires were the very worst.my opinion.But I truely loved that era.

The depth of the field is far and away better now than then. Daytona Talladega and now Atlanta have been averaging 41 lead changes per race. The Kansas race yesterday was a real eye popper also

damn turbines could run on perfume.Foyt won Ontario in a turbine powered Coyote
@STP43FAN1 Жыл бұрын
When?
@jimbosc Жыл бұрын
@@STP43FAN1 I am not aware of Foyt driving a turbine car - the first race at Ontario was 1970 (2 years after USAC essentially outlawed turbine engines). Foyt drove a Coyote - Ford in 1970. It would have been turbocharged by 70.
@STP43FAN1 Жыл бұрын
I was going to say Granatelli ran turbines 1967-68. Foyt never did. The turbines were fast but rarely finished
