1984 Harley Davidson FLHX Shovelhead Electra Glide Special Edition - Restored from the Ground Up
GREAT COLLECTOR’S BIKE!
Story/History as Told by the Seller/Rebuilder/Restorer…
I have been a Harley-Davidson ENTHUSIAST since I was 13 years old, which is a long time ago. I have been fortunate enough to buy, sell, trade.... but mainly OWN…. many H-D Motorcycles in my lifetime. As with life's realities, I have greatly streamlined the number of bikes and thousands of associated parts that once filled my shop. I am now down to just 3 Harleys, with my 1984 FLHX being one of them. I have decided to keep 2 bikes... one for my son and one for myself. Although I greatly MISS many of my older Harleys, it is kind of nice to obtain free space and free time from having to maintain those machines. I do however still OWN the many great memories that these bikes provided me! Once I have sold my FLHX I figure I will have much more time to ride the ones that will remain and hopefully do that with my son alongside.
My particular bike is like many... a LONG story. The shortest version is that back in 1984 when the H-D MoCo was beginning their release of new Evo powered motorcycles they had sent out letters to owners of previous newly purchased H-D Motorcycles, informing us that they had planned a final production run of the ShovelHead Electra-Glide FLH model (rigid mount 4-speed). This was titled as a Special Edition FLHX... not to be confused with H-D labeling their (then new) 2006 Street Glide that they ripped off the model name as FLHX.
In the Spring of 1984, I had tried to purchase a new FLHX in Birch White. I had made a cash deal with a dealer to buy one that he had recently received. He backed out the next day when I appeared with cash in hand. I was unable to find or buy another like it.
