Absolute proof of bbce re-pack .. Overlook very carefully jabs the part on mattingly to ripken,look at the fold on wax ,and bend to the cards,not all fitting,also, when theese cards were cut they usually all were close to the same in centering throughout entire box

The first Beckett I ever bought had Willie McGee and Vince Coleman. I still have it to this day along with every other Beckett I have bought since.

Was Whitey Herzog the architect of that incredible team build or was it also people in the front office? Because that vision of taking advantage of speed was phenomenal and made the game so much more enjoyable.

Great video Mr. Jabs! '84 had a great design, much better than some of the other 80's products that came after it. I grew up about 30 mins south of Evansville, IN - Don Mattingly's home town. He and Scott Rolen were both from there and visited quite often.

I think it's a trip that Don Mattingly's rookie card is an indicator card for Cal Ripken's 3rd year card.

I got a box of those for Christmas that year and scored a Strawberry and two Mattingly cards. I sold one of the Mattingly cards to the owner of my local card shop.

Great video. Yeah I remember that Simpsons episode. I think it was Steve Sax, Wade Boggs, Don Mattingly, Ken Griffey Jnr, Ozzie Smith, Darryl Strawberry, Roger Clemens, Mike Scoscia and Jose Canseco as the star team!

Love your videos! Just wanted to put something out there - I know that being in Pittsburgh that you grew up a Pirates fan, but I’m in LA and love the Dodgers! 1984 was an incredible year. All big 3 card producers came out with winners. The cards were beautiful. Quality, quality, quality. I thought '83 was good, but '84 one up'd it. '85 was OK too, but I thought Topps lost a step that year.

Bud Anderson was my grandfather's name..... the gum card, heh heh. I think that card is still at my grandmother's house! Someone managed to find one somehow..... Weird to find two different packs with both a Mattingly AND a Ripken!

I traded a 73 Clemente for the Topps Mattingly rookie with a kid in school in 1990 & at the end of the day the same kid stole it & ran off nabbing both cards! Couldnt prove it & I still want to beat his ass for that to this day!

Significant quantities of miswrapped packs began to appear around 1982 or 1983. They basically are rejects by quality control and were not purposely boxed in traditional methods. However, some may have been missed by QC and ended up in wax boxes and sealed in cases. At this point I have only a few 1989 Topps Cello miswrapped packs in my own collection.

That Mattingly couldn't have been in a better spot in the pack to minimize any damage from wax and gum that's incredible honestly. And a side note these were $0.30 back in the day and you got a free piece of gum there are boxes over a grand they should be giving you a steak dinner inside in 2019

If I would have kept collecting, I would have picked up two boxes like these to start my set back in 1984. But 1) I outgrew the cards, and 2) Opening a pack and seeing Cey as a Cub ( 8:06 ) and Garvey as a Padre would have been too much for me.

2nd one looks like a 8.5 . But I will tell them you this, that 8.5 I saw looked like a 10. It's insane what they try to grade the older cards that look mint to the common collector that knows how good a card looks. Vintage shouldn't be this much to judge unless the obvious to eye with the card.
