I love diesels and it is always a sad day when I see one swapped out. However, it is interesting to see the swap. That 6.2 probably has low miles if it is a "camper special" and there are good kits to hop one up for more ooomph if slowness is an issue. Mounting a turbo etc. is less work than swapping engine and transmission. Maybe it's just me, but I enjoy the diesels much more than the gas trucks. I accept that not all people do.

7.3 better than a cummings. [ cummins].. bet you never heard of an mwm sprint. 4.2tdi. german, fitted to s/duty & silverado,s in brazil. i have one here in aus. 700nm. 180 kw.. no computer. no glow plugs, there a german tractor engine. & quiet..@@norbertosoto3733

its a 6.2. 6.5t better.. cant turbo a 6.2.. there basically all rubbish buik engines.. converted to diesel..

The plug on the transmission is the kick down solenoid since 400's dont have a detent cable . Theres a switch on the gas pedal that triggers it. The rust on the intake is caused by the steel shot used to clean some of those intakes ive had it happen with a few aluminum intakes before .

I am so sorry and PLEASE don't take this personal. I miss the ol Chevy Coupe already. I know you got to do different things but seeing you finish your dad's project was LEGENDARY to me. Either way, I'll be here for every video you post along with others. And that's cool as ice you was a teacher. Yes you nailed it. The "ram horns" manifold is what you needed. I can't remember which is which but the "W" manifold and the "M" manifold front Chevrolet, one was on a 350 and one was a 305. Sorry I wasn't much help but you figured it out on your own PLUS taught me something extra. A wise man you are.

Connector on the trans is for the kickdown. The kickdown switch on a T400 is on the accelerator linkage.

May be a a little late but try supporting the lower control arms with the jack on the lift and removing the wheel and tires for more clearance up top.

Just love to watch you work with your antics. Watching you drive up on your new lift, I think you need a convex mirror to mount on the wall. Don't know where you can aquire one in your neck of the woods, but it is not fun driving off the side of one. Yes, yes in deed that is the voice of experience talking. You could put a nail in the wall on each side of your shop to hang it just for that purpose. And oh the '40 is looking pretty sexy in the background.

That would be the kickdown soliniod on the turbo 400.its triggered by a switch on the gas pedal assembly.

So encouraging to see "one man does it all", am so amaze and love to watch all you videos especially DIY's, so motivational for me, Usually at my place I always see some people change their gasoline engines to diesel, they say it is much more reliable and fuel efficient. They are right I guess, but there are also other reason why most of vehicles were made for gasolines. One of which is easy maintenance, either way, am a lover of both. Nice video, keep it coming.

All brackets and exhaust manifolds swap directly to the small block chevy. Motor mount brackets also.Did this swap 30 years ago on a 1982 k10

All the GM diesels were garbage, as they were primarily based off gasoline engines. The Duramax is awesome but was purchased from Isuzu further proof GM can't make a diesel.

Could have put your air lift on the car lift to pull the front wheels off and lowered the frontend probably 6 inches if not more to clear the core support and grill.

Back in the late 80's I did the diesel to gas swap on three Olds Toronados. That was a real nightmare!!! The only plus side was I scored a low mileage diesel for my Vista Cruiser wagon!

You did a fine job of swapping the diesel for a gas engine . As you know most of the hook em ups are not compatible but you swapped this for that and now the job is done . watching you inside the clip with a crow bar wrestling the engine into place, I had to look the other way . Sounded like she was running good when you pulled her on the lift. I personally would've kept the diesel and 400 trans if it was running good but I like diesels. Even though the fuel is slightly higher the old 6.2 won't burn near as much. I also wouldn't want a 700r4 in a one ton truck but good video anyways!

I can relate on the knee pain. I almost fell 4 times in 2 days during the last snow storm we had here in Colorado. Each time I strained the knee that I tore my ACL in so it was hurting like crazy. First warm day I tried to get a bit of physical therapy in and went to ride my bike over at a local park. Unfortunately someone had gone off-roading where they weren't supposed to when the ground was wet and left tire ruts, I hit one of those and ate the trail. That I thought was going to disable me for a few days but luckily I have been able to hobble around. I have a bruise going all the way through my knee. I hope your knee feels better soon. Super happy you have that lift now, that has got to make things at least a little bit better for you. =)

Hey bud your doing a great job while being hindered by that knee. Anyway i believe that large pink wire by the alt. is for the glow plugs there should be a controller on the firewall as well. Just take your crossmember loose and slide it up to where you want it they should be extra volt holes in the frame if not drill you some holes and you are done

If that diesel engine is a Detroit, hang on to it! last I saw of a company chevy truck it had over 300,000 miles on it, had the injectors cleaned for the 1st time, and was back on the road again for at least 2 more years. when new we put a RACOR centifugal fuel filter in it, which helped keep the fuel & the fuel tank clean. 😎,😁

It's always better and easier when you are deconstructing. I didn't think you were going to get the engine in, but you persevered. I have a bump cap insert that I put in my "baseball cap" that I use when I am working underneath a vehicle. good progress so far.
