These classic matches are wonderful to rewatch. Chris Evert groundies were a thing of beauty. The consistency is amazing. Really also interesting to notice how the players had just switched from wooden rackets to graphite in probably the previous 36 months.

Hana was always a joy to watch for her raw talent and ability to mix it up.

Thanks for uploading this, very interesting match, Chris certainly had a great 85 and I love watching matches from this year......one of the weirdest match points I've ever seen.

Thank you very much for this wonderful uploads ;-)) I love the way those two play when they both have a good day. I am a huge Fan of Chrissie but I came to admire the artistry of Hana more and more with each of your uploads of her full matches. She is definitely along with Goolagong and Bueno the most talented player of the century, when it comes to natural talent

Hana was like Federer: a magician with the racquet and ball. Bursting with talent and athleticism. What made her inconsistent, from what I remember, was her confidence going up and down. She was also competing against the big two, Navratilova and Evert, which would not have been easy at all.

Only thing better than an Evert-Mandlikova match is listening to BJK's insightful commentary. She would be my favorite commentator alongside Virginia Wade. Her visits to the commentator's booth are too few and far between.

Do you have Goolagong match with Hana 4th round Wimbledon 1980?
@johnmonastirli11454 жыл бұрын
1985 was the beginning of a new chapter for this Interesring rivalry between the two: they pretty much divided the last 10 matches with 5 victories each from 1985-1989

They were evenly matched when Hana started playing the percentages. Do you have their 1985 California match?

1985 was a breakthrough year for Hana. She had the incredible back-to-back wins against Chris and Martina to capture her U.S. Open title. That third set against Martina still sends chills every time. She also played that incredible match against Martina at Madison Square Garden earlier in 85. Her shotmaking, no one comes close.

What Hana did on match point would almost certainly never happen in today's game, sadly!

I actually think Chris is nervous ,having her dad in attendance.He only attended tournaments within a cars afternoon drive which were few. 80 and 82, 89 open, 85,89 Wimbledon, this, Lynda Carter’s final against Bonnie Gadusek, and that’s about it.

Il y a quelque chose qui cloche ici....c'était en 1985 mais Chris a fêté son 30ème anniversaire le 21 décembre 1984.

Hana never really gave a great post match interview in English any more than compatriot Lendl did. There was a stiffness, a discomfort with the process and attention that she really could not shake. Our loss more than hers. My wager is that she has plenty of warmth, natural humor and charm under other circumstances that does not translate particularly well from Czech to English with a microphone shoved in her face, and inane questions at the other end of it.
