From G.E. in 1985, here's a portable TV/Radio unit that could be mounted under a cabinet. It operates on AC/12VDC(auto) or Batteries. It seems like it would have been a good performer in its prime. Now it's just good as a radio, particularly strong on FM.

It's interesting that they put the low and high VHF channels together on one dial. Usually manually-tuned TVs split them, because there's a rather large gap in frequency between channel 6 and channel 7 -- including the FM radio band, the 2 meter ham radio band, and various other communications. I bet if you carefully tune between 6 and 7 on the TV band you could hear some of these.

I tried it. It works. I received several signals between 6 and 7, although they weren't too clear. They were in the first half between 6 and 7, and were talk and maybe music. I'm not sure if they would be considered "broadcasts" or "transmissions." I didn't pick up the normal HAM sounds that might be expected on the 2 meter band. Thanks.

Went from big screens to small screens to big screens back to small screens again. Amazing. Best you never thought this would get used for educational access high school football but yup. Wonderful video.

What are the parts for the video adapter you made?

If that is an '85 model, I wonder if was a late production unit. Reason being that it tunes UHF all the way to channel 83. And '85 was the year they took 70-83 for use w/ the first cellphones (AMPS).

Interesting. I still have my Nokia AMPS cell phone from 1992. There's a video about it on my channel. Of course there's no carrier that uses AMPS around anymore as far as I know.

i have one that i got from an estate sale, there was porn drawings all over the walls and it was covered in paint, other than the plastic screen cover. the antenna was connected to a large metal rod via alligator clips so it could get reception in the basement.

I don't remember now where I got it at, just some attachment I found in a box of random stuff and figured out it was good for sticking in external antenna jacks. You might look on eBay or someplace for 75 ohm converter with a mini-plug and find something that looks like the one in my video. Good Luck.

The 75ohm antenna input is a 3.5mm mono jack, like headphones but only tip and ring like a guitar or mic plug but smaller. Rabbit ears are 330ohm and back in the day you would use a 300>75 adapter to connect a coax device like a VCR or some game console adapters. there are 2 wires on a mono plug, tip and ring. Simply, chop a coax cable and a mono jack. the tip needs connected to the copper inside wire of the coax and the ring to the frayed out ground shield. Jack that in to the tv and screw the other end to a DTV converter or a VCR. Good to go!

some old cameras and camcorders had a mono jack to a yellow RCA to show video/images on a tv, cut the RCA off and solder a coax on. I'm sure you can find something for no cost to get it going if you haven't already.

What antenna should I buy just to seek TV without VCR ?
@DanOConnorTech
@DanOConnorTech 3 жыл бұрын
Just about any antenna will do. But you will need to buy a "matching transformer (that's their name)" to hook onto a little "75 ohm adapter" like I show at about the 4:40 mark and then plug those two into the jack on the TV. I don't know the name or where to buy those. I got mine in a box of stuff from an estate sale a long time ago. Good luck!

I have one with no audio and would like to repair it. I'm handy like that, look at my videos. The volume pot common problem doesn't apply as it tests fine with a meter. Does anyone have a schematic? I've read that it essentially a super radio 2 with a tv and tuner attached. reply or msg me...anyone please... Thanks!

analog signal doesn't exist in the USA anymore. You need a digital adapter or a adapter as shown in this video. The tv i have I have a chromecast adapted to it and works well.

I have one as well, found on side of road few days ago. Got video to work but no sound yet. I do have a rasperryPi and plenty of 18650 battery cells so I'm thinking a portable battery powered game console. With the Bluetooth you can add kb/mouse and use it while phone tethered to browse the web or watch KZbin. That will get attention!
