1985 IROC-Z - How to open hatch without key/switch

This video shows how you can open your hatch without the key or a hatch release switch .. In my case, I dont have either.. In written form, this is easy. The only challenge is climbing through the car. All you do is grip that metal piece that runs to the lock and turn counter-clockwise (clockwise from the outside)

My 1988 has a slot..with a medium flat screwdriver you turn it and walla..😊

well, this helps...only if the trim is pulled out and theres nothing in the way, which like nobody does..on a 87-92 camaro, the third brake light is in the spoiler, so there's gonna be the wires that will need to be disconnected (not sure how it is on 86 with brake light on top of hatch. i own 87) I've only been able to take out the rear trim with the hatch open.

Thankfully that trim flexes alot, I've had 82s through 89s and can contest to it... A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do!

yay i can get another my firebird hatch open now, all the key holes on my car are mutilated so, has no keys, ignition turna without key, door key holes are destroyed lol

Why don't you just replace the lock cylinder and use a key to open it from the outside? This isn't practical and no one leaves the trim panel off and is going to crawl through the hatch like there a tunnel rat to pop their hatch lock. I'd rather take a sharp stick to the eye then go through that all the time. I had an 82 Trans Am years ago an 87 GTA and now currently own in 89 formula that has the motorized hatch pulldown mechanism. The motor housing disintegrated because of age and now I have to rebuild it which I'm going to do. In other words I'm going to do it correctly. If you wanted to go super hack you can drill out your lock cylinder and then you could insert a thin screwdriver to turn it manually. I wouldn't recommend it that would be a sin, just go spend a couple of dollars get a replacement lock cylinder with a key and do it right you'll be thankful in the long run and also no one else of can take a screwdriver and open up your hatch. I was a teenager when these cars were Kings of the road and it really pains me to see one in this amount of disrepair and neglect. Post a video you have her fully restored, best of luck.

Thank you, no one leaves that panel off so this will not work. If the panel is off it is a no brainer how to get it open.
