6:02 Cadillac's automatic climate control came out in 1964. You have a nice car there.

Does it have a smooth and floaty feel when you drive it like an e 320?

I owned a 1985 Mercedes 300SD for 190,000 miles / 15 years with only regular maintenance and a couple of minor issues. I bought it for $40,000 and sold it for $12,000… incredible low cost per mile. The 1985 was a “unicorn” Mercedes 300SD since it introduced for the first time: • anti-lock aka “ABS” brakes (first in U.S.) • diesel “trap oxidizer” which DRAMATICALLY reduced the black diesel soot under heavy acceleration (pre-cursor to today’s Diesel Particulate Filter aka “DPF”) • supplemental restraint system (SRS): crash sensors automatically tensioned the seat belts to reduce occupants' motion on impact and then deployed the airbag on impact. This integrated the seat belts and the airbag into a restraint system, rather than the airbag being considered an alternative to the seat belt. It drove phenomenal. You just had to adapt for the BIG turbo lag until its HUGE turbo spooled up… but once it did it had tons of torque as long as you didn’t lift off the throttle. I only sold it because I got bored with it… and several of my commercial real estate brokerage clients said it made me look “old”. Bought a 1995 BMW 740iL which was a LOT faster and sportier but definitely not as reliable… and fuel was more expensive.

Should learn to not care about others opinions. It will only make you very unhappy. 🙁

I would absolutely daily drive it. These old Mercedes diesels were built to be driven. Its when they sit that issues start popping up.

Cadillac INVENTED auto climate control and it came out in 1964 with the dial type. It was electronic button control, with digital readout by 1981 when Mercedes was using Cadillac's old dial type. Great Mercedes BTW. Love the 300SD.
