This was a pretty good series. Games 5 and 6 were great games. Games 1 and 3 were pretty competitive with some wild plays deciding them.

Watched this game at my uncle's house with uncle & father in some small town in Western Pennsylvania. My father & uncle were old NY Giants fans and me I rooted for anyone playing the Dodgers. So we were all happy at the result.

2:28:52 Ozzie “has not homered batting lefty 2,967 career at bats”…..two pitches later

I remember coming home from school and turning on the game to watch. When Ozzie came up to bat and his left-handed stats came up on screen, I thought to myself. What if he hits a homerun right now? Then I thought nah. The minute I thought "nah", bang he hit it out and game over. Ozzie almost did it again off Neidenfuer in game 6.

@@Mr.NoName1972 also remember coming home from school a few days later watching Jack Clark hit his 9th inning homer to win the series

The start of this game was delayed 3 hours by rain - I remember NBC went back to regular programming with a scroll at the bottom of the screen saying that the game was delayed - and they would check back in at the top and bottom of every hour showing it pouring and the tarp over the field. Went from a noon first pitch St Louis time to a 3PM first pitch on the Columbus Day holiday. Which is why they went off air so quickly after Ozzie's walkoff - because the game ended right at 7PM Eastern Time and they needed to get to their primetime lineup.

Didn't realize the start of the game was delayed by rain. And Ozzie's first home run batting left handed.

This oughta be an instructional video to all young pitchers on how to gut it out when you don't have your stuff. Fernando's heart was as big as a 454 rocket V8.

Reminiscent of his performance in G3 of the 1981 World Series, except this time around he didnt get the win. What a fighter though.

Lasorda really over used him though because by 1988 he was no longer the same pitcher. He had some crazy pitch counts in the 80s.

2:29:18 - Watch Ozzie Smith hit again: where does the ball hit? Can anyone convince me this was a home run?
@hmhm8569 ай бұрын
It looked like it hit the grey concrete, so thats a home run Unless theres another video replay, the call would stand if replay existed

Seriously? You aren't convinced by watching it and seeing how high up it is?

Later in the year, Tommy Lasorda was a guest on the TV Show “Praise the Lord” and the main topic, believe it or not, was why Lasorda elected to pitch to Jack Clark.

Lasorda got out managed in this series, and im not taking away any of his greatness but whitey out guessed him in this series culminating in game 6 where lasorda pitched to jack clark , still a head scratcher for a hall of famer

That was a great Cardinal team. To bad Vince Coleman got injured by the tarp and missed the world series.

My memory is that Landrum was the Cardinals best hitter in the World Series and he was really good in the 3 games he played here.

2:29:35 I think the Dodgers said that Ozzie never touched home plate on the walk off home run, but he obviously did. And even if he didnt, no umpire would overturn a walk off homerun call.
