I saw this game in person...I had Wilbur Odem in class that next Monday...he said those were grown men with beards...I asked how tough were they...he said...they hit HARD...

Yates band was bigger than Holmes football team. Yates also had Johnny Bailey at running back. Odom should have followed his team mates to Texas, he would of played a lot more.

I was at the old Cowboy stadium in Irving and saw this Yates team destroy Odessa Permian in the championship game. It was ugly from the very start for Permian as they were over matched in every area including size, speed and about anything else. Yates had Bailey and the super LB that went to Iowa, Melvin Foster. I saw Dallas Carter of 1988 fame that beat Judson in the final game, but were DQed later for ineligible players or whatever. I think both were outstanding and incredibly so, but that Carter team had a ton of guys that could have played at the D1 level and the best was Jessie Armstead. So, all that to say it's up in the air for me between Carter and Yates as to who was better. They were both huge and fast

What was the Final Score? I remember that Year we(Temple Wildcats) lost to Conroe in Week 12. I remember that Year I was Hot for our lead Cheerleader (Nicola H). Wow!
