This was a long day for me. I was there for the race but afterwards my high school had the contract to clean the grandstands before the next days events. So I was there until almost sunrise the next morning. I smelled like beer and was tired. Lol Our school raised a lot of money for our marching band which was one of the best in the state.

Thank you SMIFF TV for posting another gem of a NASCAR race! I just love the roar of those engines!

Waltrip wasn't legal. He knew junior bored that motor out. If you listen really close you can hear where he pushed in the clutch and gassed it. That motor was hand grenaded on purpose

My Dad and I were there and Yes Waltrip handgrenaded that motor. He high reved that motor in the 4th turn where we were sitting.

If you're not cheatin' you're not tryin'. I'm a Mopar man, so I don't have a dog in this brand warfare that happened in the 1980s. I am convinced that if Darrel was driving a Ford, he would have been DQ'd, though.

Kyle Petty's first-ever broadcasting role. What a legendary name to debut beside.

All those GM guys whining because one lonely Ford was kicking their butts all year haha.

Maybe it had a little to do with Ernie’s engines

Yea but guess who won the championship that year?

@@supertommy1000ify after multiple rule changes so that junk could keep up, along with Elliott’s DNF problem, they had no excuse to not win it haha.

Thanks for uploading this. Interesting how they noted the gap in driver ages and how a younger generation was starting to win. My 10-year-old just watched this with me, and when DW won, she said, "that driver looks strange, like he's too old to be a driver." That gave me a chuckle. Compared to the current drivers in 2021, a 30-something driver looks too old to her.

The reference to the cars being equal is this; the thunderbird was supposed to kick ass in 84. When that didn't happen France let ford run 1in lower than everybody else. In 1985 the Elliot's were in position to kick ass.

Wether fighting for the lead, or for 8th one thing was for certain, Ol' Ironhead was gonna find someone to run into! I've been the biggest fan of Richard Petty since i was 5yrs old in 1966, but at the end of this race in 85, I turned to my father & said "Time for The King to hang it up" For Kyle's sake i sure wish he had 😕 Ol' DW alway's wanted to race a Junior Johnson 427ci Mystery engine car, the way he ran down Gant that last 6-7 lap's, I'd say he got his wish! 😆
