2:34:50 That play summed it up. And I never forgot it. I searched for it knowing it was the one of the last few plays before the game ended.

The Vikings shocked the football world with this win. They were 3-13 previous year and were utterly terrible, blown out 51-7 late in season by 49ers and after the Super Bowl win people were talking about the 49ers being unbeatable but somehow they matched the 49ers in this game, stayed with them and pulled out a win.Total shock can only imagine how much this galled Bill Walsh and the rest of that organization whose heads were getting very big

It was Bud Grant who had to salvage the Vikes after a complete idiot, Les Steckel, coached in 1984. In later years Grant would say that he privately questioned the Steckel hire immediately, but because he wanted to move on he didn't make a big deal of it when he was on his way out prior to the '84 season.

The first year the Minnesota Vikings finally wear their purple facemask on their helmets, replacing the awful, unfitting white facemask.
