I could not agree more. People don't understand why though. It is free market vs government control----again. The 1986 production rule (for the USA only, Not Europe, even to this day), and the 4-stroke forced on the industry,----were hostile take overs of this sport that free people built.

@@EarthSurferUSA My parents still have their landline phone, principally because of the insanely better latency & audio quality. Whenever I visit them, it’s truly a treat to use as the response/fidelity is so snappy that the communication through it is genuinely better.

@@cbh148 it's because all of the stuff posted to KZbin is taken from a VHS tape that were recorded off of one of the Big 3 ABC, NBC, CBS. They have the copyright to literally every reel ever that was made to air on tv back in the day. And they didn't like to share so everything you see is bootleg. I tried to get some of my tape from Supercross in the late 78-84. Tied me up in litigation for years on it. Never got shit from them. I don't have any idea why they hoard it. Doesn't make any sense whatsoever. There's a lot of B roll from these event that I was hoping to get cause it's got me and all my buddy's in our prime and I'd like to make a montage of the choice cuts. We did some things that were never aired that were really special. And no one ever saw it. Not even me or any of the guys performing. I don't get it. I'll try again in a few years. Hopefully they have transferred it all to digital storage by then. You'd think they would have done that by now. 🤙🤠

Do they run the track the opposite way now? I’ve been to a few races there about 4-6 years ago and I’m pretty sure they were running the opposite of the direction they were going in this video. It’s too bad that they have brought in a bunch of extra soil and sand and sifted out most of the rocks and till the entire track pretty deep now. Those conditions back in the day were insane!! It looks so slippery with that grass on top and nothing being tilled before the race.
@EarthSurferUSA2 жыл бұрын
The entire sport is nothing like the greatness it was, and I agree, this was the best year, the year before the production rule. That rule tripled the cost of a bike in 5 years, and a kid could no longer afford one by himself, (where most of the riders came from). This was a the climax of free market racing, and tracks like these made us the best in the world. I can't stand SX tracks today, (designed to keep everybody the same speed), and Red Bud scared the hell out of me in my prime when it was clay. Now it looks like a fun vet track at 58 years old and starting to ride again, (oh yea, my 2019 YZ 250 2-stroke was too tall too),--they all do. It is like the government runs our sport now,---and it is. We need to deport the FIM, and get Roger DeCoster and Grant Langston to run the MX/SX division of the AMA with 100% authority. Jim Weinert too. Nobody from the younger generation until they understand what the sport is about. :)

What do you mean “sadly”? Unadilla is one of best tracks. Especially from a spectators point of view. It’s always a great time when the Nationals are in town.
@jhheintz4502 жыл бұрын
@@ksut5721 Unadilla is an absolute shadow of what it once was. Yes it looks nice and cleaned up thanks to MX Sports, but the only thing the same is the address. Watch this race or any you can find from inception through ‘92 or so. There is zero comparison. Start is filled in, track os over groomed, man made obstacles (sky shot) that have no business on a natural track, bleachers (are you kidding me?) too many other events that rule out leaving the grass long, etc etc. it’s a long rutted slot car circuit anyMore. Yes the viewing is great, but it is no longer the best natural track in the world. Anyone who was there before ‘92-‘93 knows , including most of the best riders the sport has seen.
@johnschauder2 жыл бұрын
@@ksut5721 do u live in that area? I’ve been to a few nationals there and it’s beautiful. I think what he means by “sadly” is just that, as good of a track as unadilla is, it’s prepped exactly the same as every other national track. It used to be way more notorious for how rocky it was and how the virgin soil developed into a very difficult track to navigate. Over the years they have sifted out the rocks and trucked in sand to make it much more consistent and manageable. Tracks today are great…but some of the tracks back in the day were so unique that they were great in a different way.

My first race in 84, Midland Michigan on a 82 250 YZ, (was a national there a bit before my time), "Polka Dots" it was called. Michigan did not have a c class back then, and we were on the line with 500's too, one right next to me,-big fat guy. A experienced buddy of mine, (still racing since 76), told me that, "If you hear somebody catching you, don't move over., or you may move into him and take both of you down. Just hold your line and make him work around you.". Good advise. I got 3rd out of the first corner, (beat the fat guy on the 500 too), and did not take one of the 15 guys out who passed me for the rest of the race. :)

The EPA and FIM made sure they were faster, (upped the displacement from 400/426/459) so the racers would have to choose it. Well, when you pit a faster engine in something to race, the track has to get faster. We get our buts kicked by the Euro's because the tracks could not be more redundant. They do get big ruts though.
