The Bears defense from 86 to 88 were just rock solid. It's just that there was just no consistent QB play. McMahon would always be hurt or come playoff time against the Redskins 86 and 87 just fell apart at the end. Hell the Bears had a 14-0 against the Redskins in 87 and allowed 21 points and only scored 3 the rest of the game. Against the 49ers, there just no offense and the Bears couldn't stop Montana throwing. All that success of 85 got to the Bears head including Ditka and instead of playing together as a team, they played as individuals. With all that talent they only got that one ring in 85. Compared that to the 49ers that played together as a team won 4 rings in the 80's.

The 86 bears offense was terrible. The quarterback trio of Mike tomczak, jim mcmahon, and doug flutie commited 47 turnovers. Thank god they had walter payton
