My mom loved skywalker because he was sidelined from the Derby trail in 1985. I sat out this day and didn't have Manila at 8-1 which ticks me off to this day.

RIP to Turkoman, who lived to the ripe old age of 34.

I've never been a Pat Day fan either; though, I'm not sure that it was Day's plan to try to overcome an eight length disadvantage in the final 1/8. By the way, Turkoman is apparently still alive at 33. According to Wikipedia he is at EA Ranches in Ramona, California.

+steven cooke Turkoman is, indeed, still alive. Our Mims Retirement Haven pays a part of his board in his retirement. We last heard (a few weeks ago) that he is still doing rather well.

I went back to Wikipedia and see that your fine work is referenced there. He deserved to be treated like royalty.

@@OurmimsOrg Turkoman passed on December 21, 2016 due to chronic instability in his hind quarters. I remember him well. Very versatile runner.

I bet the Breeders Cup people didn't expect the first three winners of the Classic to be Wild Again, Proud Truth and Skywalker. Not exactly a who's who of champion thoroughbreds

Pat Wait All Day's deliberate, hesitant, tentative, bad ride strikes again on Turkoman.

Im glad to see the negative but true comments on Pat Day---he screwed up more big races and I dont care what anyone says but he was a choker in the clutch

Pat Day + Alydar & his progeny's habit of just...never...quite...getting there...notice Durkin used almost the same call he used here, in 1986, "Turkoman with one late move," as he would use in 1989 for Easy Goer (also with Pat) trying to catch Sunday Silence, "Easy Goer with one...final...acceleration!" hell...it even extended through the generations, you could say it contributed to Point Given (has Turkoman on the bottom) not being able to catch Macho Uno in the Juvenile

i think one thing that people overlook is that horse of the year was between ladys secret and turkoman, day rode ladys secret to victory in distaff and lukas trained her, day wasnt that great of a rider but maybe lukas promised him future mounts to keep turkoman too far back, turkoman was retiring already i think so just something to think about , day was always kinda shady, look at his claim of foul in preakness on sunday silence, he cut silence off and then claim foul when he was beaten by a better horse

Pat Day fucks up another ride--most overrated jockey in history

Wasn't Pat Day the all time leading rider at Churchill Downs? Perhaps the jockey colony was not that strong, meaning he was a big fish in a small pool.
