For real though, 380/420 is DAMN good numbers for a 305.

@@ChrisGarage yeah typical talk from people who think that the 350 is somehow a completely different engine from the 305. It's just a difference in bore and valve size.

Read the description, nice output. A fun power level without being too much. Kinda sad you ditched the TPI setup (don’t have to keep the stock TPI parts…)though and didn’t just go with a bigger engine and FI. Going LQ9 made it a little less stand out these days. Lots of LS swap guys.
@ChrisGarage2 жыл бұрын
The only thing that was stock was the plenum and that I ported it was accel base and runners. The TPI looked awesome but sadly what I wanted from the car. The LS swap was the best thing I’ve done as far as the power plant

That is some pretty great power for a 305, I imagine quite a blast to drive with the centrifugal supercharger helping out with not falling off so hard at the top, would love to have seen the dynograph

Thats some really good power, but it doesn't surprise me because a 305 tpi is the strongest running version of the 305 I think. One of my friends had one in a firebird and of course it was tuned and had some minor upgrades that I don't really know what they were. but stock block stock heads stock intake runners. and yeah it ran really strong for a 305. I would of just kept running that engine instead of ls swapping it, but thats still cool.
@robertpursley49074 күн бұрын
The L69 and LE9 were fairly comparable to this variant which was the LB9 version. Mainly, the heads cam and intake all were different which made the power differences. The short blocks as far as I am aware were really similar if not the same. The difference is for some reason, fuel injecting a 305 makes a big difference in power numbers for some strange reason, whether it be because of A/F mix having better flow and velocities I’m not sure, I have studied the numbers though, even modded the modded TPI systems out perform the carburetors just are not as reliable.
@Mike-me8vl2 ай бұрын
Beautiful car, Impressive numbers.. Does this allow the tpi 5.0 and 5.7 to make more hp at a higher rpm? Still have the graph? This is what I am on the fence about, buying a cherry third gen and swapping a ls in it, or going procharged.
@ChrisGarage2 ай бұрын
Thanks, this is an older video. i have the graph some where. it doesn't make more power at high RPM intake is still limiting. i pulled this motor about 5 years ago and swapped in a 6.0 LQ9 LS motor with a hot cam. i wish i did that sooner :)
@robertpursley49074 күн бұрын
A TPI will pretty much always have a very bell shaped power curve, the length of the runners just won’t allow for higher rpm, but that doesn’t mean it can’t perform, 305,350,400 engines all do extremely well with TPIs just limits the cam specs you can run. At least if you are talking about the factory TPI. Aftermarket TPI induction systems that have much shorter runner length will make power at higher rpm like you are wanting and you can run a more radical camshaft as aggressive camshafts want to make peak power at higher RPMs and have more of a linear power curve.

Chris's Garage 1.69 “baby” launch I doubt it. Maybe not Deion clutch at redline but you don’t halfass outa the hole and get those numbers with that power level.
@ztwntyn85 жыл бұрын
Greg Metzger a friend of mine had procharged formula Firebird 305 tpi and ent best of 12.8 but typically in the heat mid/low 13. After heat soak it slows a couple tenths and a cold day does wonders especially if you have no intercooler. I’d do a 5.7 s/c or ls swap n/a will make that power numbers with a canned 5.3. Not putting anybody’s car down though. I think it’s interesting to see what the tpi on boost does.
