Sarah-Jane Nichols (Halfords) came from last to first, passing Karen Murphy (Raleigh) down the last straight to become the 1986 16+ Girls IBMXF World Champion in Slough, England.

Sarah-Jane Nichols was inducted into the British BMX Hall of Fame in 2022.
Sarah-Jane now in her 50s, she made a comeback to racing in 2023. At the 2024 UCI World Championships in the US, she placed 2nd in the 30-plus Ladies category, marking nearly 40 years since her 1986 World Championship win.
