Thanks for dropping this footage .. amazing stuff. Shuppan stories of his win are legendary where the door almost blew off late in the races. Amazing

When drivers had to manually shift the cars. Those were the days.

Very true. No paddle shifters like they have on the steering wheel these days with the Hypercars.

Except for Shuppan who was driving an automatic transmission, according to the commentator anyway.

Schuppan’s car actually was equipped with an automatic “PDK” gearbox. Audi also used this in one of their S1 Quattro Group B rally cars during the 1985 RAC Rally.

@@weylandyutani6691 Correct. I recall that around the time of this race Porsche began experimenting with a PDK transmission. Early version of today's PDK.

A random thought just popped up... there are about a dozen cars of the leading class tail-gating at ~ 230 mph. If the guy up front blows a tire, blinks wrong, or anything else, ooooh there's gonna be a mess!!

Didn't know they'd shoved an auto in one of them!!

Thats how they developed the PDK dual-clutch transmission. Race proven, It's in nearly every Porsche made today.

@@mihill27 Thank you for your reply. It makes perfect sense. I was aware of said transmission and that it's in current road cars, but not where it had been developed. Thank you for adding value to the comments.
