Thank you for this. My father took me to that show when I was 13. He passed away a few days ago so this was a wonderful memory revisited 🙏

Glad my upload sparked memories for you. Watching these programmes back in '86, resulted in me going to my first motorshow in 1988 with dad. We went by train from Cornwall direct to the NEC. Dad passed away 10 years ago this month 🙏

@@MontyMotorsportsorry for your loss, glad we both have fatherly memories. The Ford and Jaguar stands were the stand outs for me this show. Ford gave away so much merchandise it was brilliant. Came home with bags and bags full of stuff. Shame they stopped doing the NEC and Earls Court shows. Fond memories 🍻

From a time when I found cars exciting..... I went to the 86 show and a few years later bought an XJ40. Today's cars are more like domestic appliances; hard to get excited about a washing machine on wheels..... 😂

I wasn’t even born in ‘86, but completely agree. 99% of todays cars do nothing for me, my favourite daily is my ‘02 530i, my Sunday car is a ‘97 F355 with a lovely gated manual and my track car is a Caterham 7, I also have a couple of E38 7 series and my newest car is my ‘11 RR Vogue. I’ve tried and had newer cars but nearly none do anything for me(although some of the American stuff is still great, most notably the Corvette and the Challenger).

1986 was my 2nd year working for Lucas in Birmingham, now I'm retired and in between the British car components business simply got eliminated, eg I went from Lucas to LucasVarity, to TRW then ZF with Aerospace in between eg Goodrich & Rolls-Royce, cant say i miss it these days but 86 I remember going to the NEC and dreaming about an Aston Martin.....

Many of the cars shown in this clip are actually now modern classics with values increasing! Something is very obvious from this video and that is that the vast majority of these motor cars look superb compared to todays ugly fat bulbous motors that have no beautiful lines and style whatsoever! Roads today just clogged up with them stupid SUV things! Cars of the 80s and 90s have character!
