I used to love this set. Was in 2nd grade when I came out and were the first baseball cards I ever bought. Would buy packs of these and Garbage Pail Kids 😊

Same here. 25 cents a pack. The local pool had a snack bar and I started buying these.

I started collecting seriously in 87. Topps 1987 cards with the wooden border is my Fav. I was in Jr high and had to stay over after school for basketball practice. I would save my snack/lunch $. There was a store across the road and I would walk over and buy Baseball cards with my lunch $. I will never forget the day I pulled a 1987 Future Stars Bo Jackson. Which was my pride and Joy as a 6th grader.

When I was 12 we used to bring bottles back to the grocery store in 86' and buy packs. Also in RBI BASEBALL Marty Barrett for Boston was like Barry Bonds hitting a HR almost every time at bat. 😊 So cool to see these cards being unwrapped again. Thanks Jabs your the man.

That Gwynn is grade worthy IMO. No Nolan, Sandberg, Winfield, Boggs or Cecil Fielder sucks though. Donny Baseball was the best card IMO but I'm biased.

This is the very first year I started collecting so these packs will always hold a special place in my heart. I even bought a complete set for that reason. This is an awesome video for me to relive my youth. I sent in those Spring Training cards, but never won. lol

I was a sophomore in HS when this set came out. I would trade with a classmate in order to complete the set. The Mets won the WS that year. My classmate was a Mets fan, from the Bronx, believe it or not. Don Mattingly was my idol growing up. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Cheers from Brooklyn, NY.

That Larry Herndon card reminds me of something that's a bit of a Fun Fact about him: It seems that when he was a minor leaguer in the Cardinals system, one of his teammates was a young catcher named Randy Poffo, later infinitely better known as "Macho Man" Randy Savage.

That's a good looking box from 1986, most of the time they are warn, ragged, tore and crushed. I don't think them was in a basement. Good luck breaking and have fun.

RBI 3 was crazy. Whoever coded the game was a huge Cubs fan. The 84 Cubs were nearly as good as the Tengen Team. And Thad Bosley was a HR king.

For Pete Rose: his ban should be lifted. I was still against him being reinstated even a year ago. But the more I think about it, the more I think that yeah, back then I could see a lifetime ban. Maybe overkill, but justifiable. Today, no way. If they have solid proof he bet on the Reds, nope, he stays out. If not, he’s done his time and then some just betting on other team’s games that he had no control over. Players bet on football games, I’d bet, so what’s the difference? Betting on games you have nothing to do with, who cares? Go for it. For me, depends on what the guys that make the decisions have as far as evidence. Definitely bet on the Reds, stays out. No evidence, bring him back in to the game.

Back in '86 I absolutely hated this set out of the big 3. Thought it was ugly, dull, and QA was spotty compared to Donruss and Fleer. Fast forward nearly 40 years, I've found this set has really grown on me. The gaudy team name in front of a black background really standout. It's also still relatively cheap for set builders today.

In addition to the Nolan Ryan, and Cal Ripken, there are several other good cards in this set, like Tony Gwynn, Don Mattingly, and Rickey Henderson that can have some value in psa 10.

Bill Almon was the overall #1 pick in the 1974 MLB draft out of Brown University in Rhode Island. He was very highly touted, and chosen ahead of Dale Murphy, Willie Wilson, and Rick Sutcliffe in the 1st round. The first and almost certainly the last Ivy League player to be chosen #1 in the draft.

To this day, I wonder what happened to Dwight Gooden. In '85 and '86, he was supposed to be what Roger Clemens turned out to be. I guess he should've used roids to stay competitive but he chose not to and Clemens got all the noteriety. The 1986 Gooden card is my favorite of all time because he was so highly regarded in the day. Still my favorite wind up motion.
