Its great to look back at Steve Davis now and to realize what a great player he was to watch, when I was younger I hated him for being so consistent , but now all I see is poetry in motion.

Same, Jimmy my hero as a kid, Alex and Jimmy favs. However, looking back now I can appreciate Davis and his brilliance. Totally dominated the 80s. He wasn't just great in safety, he was quick, great long potter, break builder, literally had all the shots and the iron will to win. Probably should have won the World Championships 8x tbh. The ones against Joe Johnson and Dennis Taylor he would have expected to win.

I think Davis was a machine in 80s & should have won more world titles than six. He lost 2 he shouldn't have & won 6 UK finals & that's still not beaten. The tables are easier to play on these days & balls lighter & if Henry was in same era as Davis I'm sorry Davis was the only born winner & wouldn't have made same mistakes as Hendry. I've watched Davis since early 80s & saw them both in prime & Davis is better.

Davis was not better. No where near and even Davis himself admits that. I would place Ronnie O'Sullivan as the greatest ever. Hendry a close second. Then John Higgins and maybe Steve Davis 4th on the all time list of greats

Stephen Hendry was a far better break builder with 13 147's and 775 centuries while Davis only ever made one 147 and 300 centuries over a 38 year old career at there's not that much difference in the tables today and honestly think the pockets along the rails were bigger back in the day and Stephen Hendry had more bottle than Davis and proved that in the UK final with a 98 winning break in the last game.

I remember that. Thorne was 13-8 ahead and he missed a straight blue. Davis won the frame and romped home after that.

I liked Foulds, a good match player who didn't get the recegnition he deserved. I blame the beta blockers scandal back in 1987 when it came out that Foulds used these to control an irregular heart beat. All of a sudden Foulds was being portraid as a drug taking cheat. Beta blockers did not enhance his performances one bit and saddly he was never the same player after the press ripped him to shreds over it.
