Bless you for rescuing this beauty. This generation Park Avenue/Regency/Sedan de Ville is the car America would prefer to forget. I was around 14 when this car was brand new, and thought the Front Wheel Drive downsized GM luxury lineup was fascinating. One of my middle school teachers had a 1987 Park Ave identical to this one: White exterior with blue cloth interior. I remember the day she handed me the keys to her brand new Park Ave and sent me on a quest to collect something she needed for a class demonstration. I remember being WOWed by how luxurious and comfy it was, considering the downsizing. Years later in my 20's I purchased a 1988 Park Avenue from its original owner, and it was the most reliable car I've owned to date (I'm now 51). Packed it with friends, and took it on many many freeway trips. It had leather interior, automatic rear leveling suspension, and the climate control was the electronic touchpad type.

As Derek over at VGG says when he drags an old neglected vehicle out of a barn/tree-row etc and gets it running & driving again; "another one saved!" Keep up the great work preserving America's automotive history!

Thank you! I enjoy rescuing all of them. Mark V is a work in progress I just bought a vinyl top for it and hopefully painted soon. But the Seville will be first (I have a 77 that I will post videos of soon). I enjoy rescuing them it’s fun to see something that was toast be made good again!

They sure did! I had a '90 Ninety Eight (the Oldsmobile version of this car) and to this day it was the smoothest riding vehicle I've ever been in when it still had its factory air suspension. Unfortunately the air struts failed and the pump kept killing my battery so I converted it to stock struts. Still rode nice but not like the factory ride with the air struts.

@weegeemike I had an eighty eight and a century. 3.8 and a 3.3. Love them.
@weegeemike3 күн бұрын
My first car was this car's cousin, an Oldsmobike Ninety Eight. Mine was a '90, the last year of this generation. The '88+ models are the nost desireable because they have the original 3800 (known as the Pre Gen 1) code LN3 with the balance shafts and sequential port EFI. The other years are solid engines too, they have an older Buick 3.8 (before they were redesigned and called the 3800) that was a solid engine but had some more issues, lik3 timing chain problems amongst others. Theyre still good to 150k before something catastrophic fails, whike the 3800 is good for 300k+ mi in some cases. Either way, i love your Buick! It reminds me so much of my Olds. im glad you saved it from the scrapper and get to wnjoy it. Hard to find a smoother riding car uonestly, my car was unvelievably smooth when it had its factory air shocks. However they started leaking and the load level pump would run and consistently kill the battery, which is something to look out for on these cars. I disconnected the air pump and put regular struts on it, it didnt ride as nice but i didnt have to pay the big money to rebuild the air system. Enough of my rambling, sweet car man! Enjoy it. They dont make them like this anymore.

8:49 - the hood ornament: This is the symbol Buick used for the Electra. It was definitely used on the 1977 - 84 Buick Electras. Those cars did not use the Buick tri-shield. Buick used a different symbol, whatever you call it, on the Electra (since it was the flagship model), the Regal, and the Riviera for many years, definitely during the 70s and 80s. For the Riviera it went all the way back to 1964 - they used a stylized "R". The Electra had red white and blue on it in this shape on your hood ornament. The Regal had a square with a diagonal blue line through it. The other Buick models (LeSabre, Century, Skylark, Skyhawk, and others) used the tri-shield. Why? I think to show there was some exclusivity associated with those models. The Riviera was the personal luxury car. The Electra was the flagship. The Regal had been a more luxurious version of the Century originally when it came out in 1973.

By today's standards, the mid-80s Olds 3.8 liter electronic fuel injected engine had an aggressive sounding exhaust sound under acceleration. GM quieted it down considerably in the following years, but in 1986, the year my mom got an Olds Delta 88, it was throaty and could be heard all the way up the block.

Beautiful! But i wouldn't blame GM for the paint, as it looks damn good for a 38 year old car! By '87 these cars were over most teething problems and were reliable. An important platform for the American market....GM's first front drive, transversly-mounted engine full-size vehicles. They were a success and they sold millions. A very cool find!

That is a beautiful car and what a great story! Thank you for saving that pretty girl! The only thing I don't like...that hideous green top Interstate battery. A proper GM one would make such a big difference. Other than that, well done!

@@vintagecarprofessor That's odd. I buy the GM AC Delco ones for both my older GM cars. A 91 Cutlass Supreme International coupe and 96 Cutlass Supreme SL sedan. The 91's is 5 years old now, the 96 is going on 7. To me, nothing ruins a beautiful engine bay like a dumb green top battery. Love your PA though.

Back in 1983 , my mom bought a Buick Park Avenue . It was Firemist Red with Burgandy interior . A typical full size / rear wheel drive with a Olds 307 . In 1986 , it was traded for this " midsized " version . Dark blue with dark blue interior and a 3.8 liter engine ( I think it was carburated ) and front wheel drive . Honestly ....I was not a fan of it . But I must say ....I used it to get my driver's license and used it for many Friday nights out with friends /dates with girls . ( I was a sophmore - a senior the time my mom owned it ) After graduating high school , I left for the U.S. Navy . BUT by the time I returned home after bootcamp and A school ( 5 months later ) the Buick was gone . Traded in for a brand new Chevy S-10 Blazer . My point is this ....though I was NOT a fan of the Buick , these days ( in my early 50's ) ....I actually DO miss that car !! Just as much as the full sized 1983 rear wheel drive Park Ave we had ...which I ABSOLUTELY LOVED !! lol Well ...I am just rambling ...haha I LOVE your Park Avenue brother 😊

Did this Buick have the self leveling rear suspension with the transverse fiberglass leaf spring? If so, very difficult to find rear shocks for it.

I had one of these as a 1986, in burgundy-- but with independent high and low beam lamps as opposed to the whole lens being covered horizontally. That was a damn good car... uhhh... well until the tranny went out. I remember I sold the car in October 1995... the same day as the OJ Simpson verdict.
