1987 Honda Accord LXi 5 speed (CA5 3geez) - Review

This is a late introduction to my 1987 Honda Accord Lxi 5 speed hatch. I've had it for about 6 months and I plan to do quite a few things to it. Here's a quick video of what's going on.

Biggest difference (besides the drive configuration, of course) is that you could buy 2 of these and keep them in parts for the price of a single dogged out Corolla GT-S on Craigslist that you'd have to tow home.

I love this car! My aunt had one of these back in the day as well. Hers was a DX trim level with an automatic transmission. I’ve had Hondas in my family since around that time. I currently drive a 2005 Honda CR-V with the 5 speed manual transmission.

Ik im late to the party here but I bought a 87 lxi 5 speed ab a month ago and I was driving when some 80s song came on and it was insane. I love this car. All I really have to do is get it repainted and get the suspension redone and get a new windshield and then it’ll pretty much be mint

I have a '86 Lxi I'm fixing up, has 133,xxx miles on it. Been sitting since '99 I have the only one in town that I know of. Has the original H4 Transmission, still works too.

Sweet car man, a blast from the past for sure. I am getting an 86 LXi Hatch soon, 5 speed, all stock. Gotta clean it up first, then start on Air intake, injectors, wheels and tires, etc. Yours is awesome and I will be watching for more videos man!

@@divineeculture hey bro I wanted to know how the suspension is holding up because I was going to buy lowering springs but since u said its not that bad cutting the springs i was thinking of doing it. And yeah man they are rare 😂 don't ever sell yours its too clean!

I can make a video on how the ride is with cut springs if that would help! I cut off about 2 coils in front and back but I had to install some spring spacer blocks to stiffen the rear springs since the springs are so soft, the rebound distance is great which causes the tires to rub over bumps and when I sat down in the car lol. The ride is not bumpy and with the new tires being balanced, is legitimately a comfortable ride and feels like stock.

I'd say your best bet if possible is to buy another accord as a donor car but if not, the junkyard or facebook forums are your best bet.

Hey can you or any one tell me what the little filter on top of the valve cover is???

It's a crankcase breather. No real purpose other than blocking off the hole in the valve cover so nothing comes in. Since I have an intake, the hose that connects to the valve cover needed to be removed.

You can get a GRIP for your EK hatch! Had multiple $4k+ offers on my ex gf's 98 DX! Going through my 86 LXi's front suspension (bushings, ball joints, tie-rod ends, pads/rotors, struts and driver side axle. Plus a new set of wheels (bumping up to 15's) and possibly a set of lowering springs. Definitely looking forward to the difference in performance as I am almost certain these bushings were factory and so many bj's are bad!

@@divineeculture I live in Iowa so it has some rust and a rip on driver seat and the car sat for a while so it has dried out seals and hoses that I have to fix rusty water so new radiator all normal problems

Nice. I just found myself an 88 Accord EXi (fixed lamps) that was rust free and good paint. Same 12v PGM-FI engine. Wish it was a 16v but 115hp is alright. Just ordered a coilover kit to lower it. Then we'll see what kind rims I can fit on there =) I've been looking at the Rota Kyusha rims but the 15x8 and 15x9 only come with et -15 to 0. 15x7 however you can get up to +40
