Nice truck overall that are hard to find. Love the old '86-88 xtracab long beds. I read somewhere a long time ago that there were only 2000 long bed xtracabs produced in 86, 87 and 88. Not sure if that info is correct but it might be because I rarely if ever saw them. I have a red 1988 5-speed xtracab longbed with 165K miles that I bought from the original owner in Sherman Oaks, Ca back in 1996 to replace my previous truck (which was also an '88 longbed but a standard cab) that got stolen a few months prior. There is a rear shelf behind the back seat that runs across which was also missing in mine and I remember asking the original owner about that shelf before purchasing the truck but she didn't know what happened to it. At that time the truck only had 56K miles and it was clean and I didn't care about a missing rear shelf. I eventually found one on ebay several years ago which I haven't installed yet and is still in the box lol. Haven't driven my truck in over 10 years and after 28 years of owning it might be time to let it go. Not sure yet. Also found a rare perfect condition original factory chrome rear bumper with the black plastic end caps that are next to impossible to find undamaged which I still haven't put on the truck because of something happening to those end caps. The truck owner switched to some aftermarket tubular style rear bumper and I jumped all over that original rear bumper for $100 and didn't wait on that.

Thanks, it definitely needs some work but I'm giving it a solid go. I was reading those numbers about the production on this particular variant as well. Seems fairly scarce. I'm looking for a rear shelf myself, or I may end up making one, depending on what sort of configuration I decide I want to go with for it. My rear bumper is twisted but hopefully I can straighten that out myself as well. I'd say it's not time to let that truck go though. They definitely don't make em like this anymore. I'm currently working on the head gasket as that's blown, fortunately not bad enough to have gotten coolant in the oil. It was just pressurizing the cooling system itself, and then it would turn the overflow bottle into a geyser. Hopefully I don't find anything else wrong while I dig into that. I am finding some of the studs for the exhaust have been replaced and not necessarily with the right size studs so whoever my Uncle had working on this definitely had a "get it done" mentality and not necessarily a "Do it right" one. Main thing I'm wanting to do beyond that is try to find the components to install an AC system into it. It's one thing to drive around San Jose, it's another to be dead smack in the middle of Texas. Maybe I'll at least try to find a split rear window so there's a little more ventilation when driving, who knows. Either way, thanks for the comment and I do hope your truck gets some attention soon =D

@@jonnymiskatonic -I forgot to mention putting in a makeshift rear shelf in '97 is also what I did. Bought a 3/4" thick board at Home Depot and had it cut to the correct length and it works fine. I glued down a dark gray mat over it (similar to front door mat material) and had it trimmed to fit. It's in the truck all these later which is also the reason I never installed the original shelf I eventually found on ebay. My truck has the sliding rear window which is good to have when it's 100 degrees. If you're able to find one I would eventually have that switched out. I've been to Texas a couple of times (cousin in Arlington) and it gets brutally hot there. I used the sliding rear window even though my truck has factory AC and it used to be ice cold but developed a leak and the freon eventually leaked out. Might have an AC shop completely go thru it. I tried to start the truck but it has a dead battery from sitting and should have disconnected it first. The rear differential has a leak and the carburetor most likely needs rebuilt from sitting for a decade. Unless I spray some carb cleaner and get lucky. Wish it had fuel injection instead. It's been in non-op status for 10 years and will need to be smog'd and registered which is another $200-250. Probably $1500 for all costs and repairs. If I did that and also had the truck washed and detailed it would make a huge difference. I love the old Toyota trucks, visually the truck lines were great there was a great simplicity to them. The '84-88 trucks were the pinnacle years for Toyota. Maintenance was a breeze, oil and plug changes were done in an hour and the cost was less than $20. Those days unfortunately are over..... Is your truck currently driveable or is the head gasket too far gone? I was lucky and never had to deal with that. Some people are still able to drive their car if the head gasket issue is minor. Overall your trucks looks pretty good, mostly just minor cosmetic stuff. That is definitely a factory rear bumper on your truck. I'll probably hang on to my Toyota truck for a while. If I sell it I'll most likely regret it and I've had plenty of regrets. Used to also have a clean '69 Dodge Charger R/T 440 with a factory 4-speed that I took to car shows. Like a fool I sold it also back in '97. By far one of the biggest mistakes I ever made.
