As a teenager, this was a fantastic place to live. Thanks for the memories!

Wow! I was 6 years old and was living on Koyuk when you took this. I think we moved to North St in '89.

History: Thanks for the film. The time (year) is very interesting. From 0 - 19 seconds you can see the big “Adak Building” on the left (old submarine garage from Adak, Alaska). It’s across the street from the NCO club. That tells me the film is from before 8+am February 10. That’s when an (est) 600 gallons of propane leaked from a 1200 gallon tank and exploded, started a fire, and burned that 100’ x 300’ building down. EAFB Fire Department responded after the leak was reported, prior to the explosion, but did little to prevent it. There was film of that fire and the injuries. I wonder what happened to it.

Had a real close family friend involved in that fire. I remember the Adak Building was behind the back of the BX. Also remember the big gate around it. I was walking to school , and heard the explosion. I was in 6th Grade /Taylor Elementary. Was a sad day. We sat around all day waiting on updates on his condition.

@@redsimmons6791.Hey Red, I responded last night and it posted but now it’s gone. maybe because I offered a link to photos, which are not hard to find. (?) Three people had 2nd & 3rd degree burns from that fire, 2 were airmen from the heat shop. TH & HW. It was indeed a rough day and for those burned, and even family members, many rough nights for years to come. I’m glad you missed the heat. Interestingly, the anniversary of that fire 36 years ago is in 2 days. But for some, it can always seem like yesterday. Take good care.
