Mr Stavros, i was born in 1980 and i remember my father driving a volvo f89 and later jumped to his very own f12 400. Hearing the engine revving and the "click-clack" of that gentleman half gear selecting, immediately triggered a memory many many years ago i thought it was forgotten. Now i am at work, crying my eyes out

Worked at Volvo Trucks when these F16 was introduced with Frame assembly and remembered that we workers went to a launch event where we got a white jumper with 470 Power on, sadly I have not saved it. It just show how times pass quickly now these trucks are rare veterans, instead of everyday sights. To get a bigger engine than Scanias V8 was always nice!

I was born in 1988. And, as my father is a mechanic, I got to spend some time in many Volvos - and trucks of many years. I have to say: Times have moved on in a great way. Trucks now are easier than ever, but it is still very difficult, and not for every one. Fortunately now, the trucks is built around the driver, and to ease his/her life. Moreover, trucks are more comfortable than ever. Despite this, the endurance is not for everyone, and the capacity of working in difficult situations - of navigating, especially in countries where different languages are spoken - and resilience, is not for everyone. Trucks are a passion! And I love all trucks. Thank you for sharing

My Grandfather had both an F12 400 & F16 470 when he was self employed, I know the F16 did regular trips from the UK to the middle East and back. Even though I was very young at the time in 1998 I can still hear a straight piped F16 coming from two miles away. What a sound :)

I just started a new job and have been put in a Volvo F12 tipper. Brand new 480hp engine. For a 30yr old truck, it goes better, handles better, the brakes are fantastic and the cab ride is better than most newer KWs, Macks, Freightliners and Western Stars I’ve driven, and puts Ivecos to shame. I’m so impressed with this Volvo- it’s a great truck!

Well done Stavros, you were ahead of your time, this footage is old gold. Night heater! Who thought that would catch on. 470hp, no traction control, no ABS, you had to be able to drive back then. The Gloccamaura is a good place to see what they can do. You were even looking for air on the steer axle back then. Nice low centre of gravity with the sand. It will be interesting in another 32years for people to look back to today. Looking forward to more nostalgia

Now this take me back. I used to go to work with my dad “when kids were allowed” back in the 80s & 90s. He was a lowloader driver for a tarmac company and i remember when his firm got this insane Volvo with 400hp it was the pride of the fleet. My dad who’s now retired said to this day it was probably one of the best, if not the best HGV tractor unit he ever drove. Powerful, comfortable & far in front of its competitors.

Thebigbowler I was speaking with retired drivers and some of them wore elegant clothes while driving local or long distance. Now you call elegant a driver dressed in jeans with a polo shirt and some nice shoes/sneakers. In a cargo terminal in Hamburg I see all the drivers dressed either in work clothes like Engelbert Strauss or sportier like Decathlon or just some random shorts and t-shirts worn just for the sake of being dressed.

Great video Stavros. Even back then you could tell you had a hand on the tapeing and presentation👍 Fair play to the salesman driving the F12, he new the product well and had prepared for the open day and product launch. Back in 1984 I worked as a demo driver with a Mercedes Benz truck dealership and launched the 814. Very similar couple of days to this one you and Rory attended. The guy in the F16 could use some lessons😀. Starting to open up here in Florida and Georgia my daily travels. Traffic is going to get crazy again, but I have been fortunate to have worked through this unusual period. 🏴🇺🇸👍
