I was surprised that Hawaii had 9 home games that season and with a 9-3 record they didn't get a bowl invite.

Always been very costly for UH to play in bowl games on the mainland which is why the Hawaii Bowl started in 2002 - to give them a bowl game to play in when the team was eligible and that they didn't have to break the bank to go to.

walterlv01 why is it so hard to play mainland bowl games? They play a lot of regular season games on the mainland

@@privatepyle6500 well, in those days they only played 3 road games a year. then in the 90s they typically played 4 road games a year, but by the June Jones era it was more like 5

I graduated from Long Beach State in 2007. One day, the 49er Football Team will be back. It is the administration that needs to go into extinction first before the new blood can revive this once proud program. Until then, I have to settle for the LBCC Vikings.

I graduated to from Long Beach State in 1988 so I remember when they had a football team. The administration has to make a commit to have a team, I don't see that happening anytime soon the way the budget is now.

California is broke. There won't be any new college football programs added anytime soon.
