I did the Oregon state 100km TTT in about 1992. We lost 1 guy at 25km, and another at 50km. We did a 2 man 50km TTT after that and got 2nd... I remember being crushed!

Great how the US commentary beforehand says how the bike technology has evened everything up, so it comes down to fitness of the riders, while the Aussie commentators spend the race pointing out how the US (aero bars) & EG (Kevlar lightweight) bikes give them such an advantage over everyone else. It was the bike tech that won it!

haha yes. They were ahead of the times though introducing the tt bars a year before Lemond used them to win the TDF. Certainly changed cycling for good.

Back then the TT bikes were also pretty expensive and disc wheels way more expensive than regular ones. Inflation in general, and more dentists on bicycles, have driven prices up.
@danfuerthgillis44834 ай бұрын
@@huubvankesteren4185 Agree I see a lot of people on road bikes that are only buying these high end bikes because they are lightweight they can't ride a 10+kg bike at the speeds of 6.8kg bikes. This is why the prices of bikes have gone up because there is now a higher demand got the higher end bikes.
