I own a 1984 World Sport that I purchased new. Kept it up in the SPS-40 Air Search Radar room when I was deployed on my ship in the Navy. I’ve ridden that bike in some pretty amazing places around the world. Still looks and rides almost good as new. A truly fine bicycle.

I picked up a teal and purple (deliciously late 80's) bike just like this a couple years ago. Same thing where the continental gatorskins were worth 3x+ what I paid for the entire bike. I've got a few hundred miles on it already and plan on using that as my daily commuter. Great bike!

I have my 1980 World Sport 100% original since new. Pulled it from my shed oiled chain and inflated the tires and off I went. Now I'm going to restore it. I bought a new Trek Domane and bought a Giant Cypress. I am still impressed with the fun my World Sport is to ride. Wild last time I rode it was 40+ years ago.

38 mph takes some serious high gearing. My Schwinn "World" with 52 x 13 top gear will only get me about 27 mph going down hill before I'm over spinning.

I have a 1990 World Sport, and the bike is indestructible. I love riding it. I have one 1988 World Sport, with the same color scheme, up for sale for $75 locally to me, but the owner was not able find the serial number on the head badge. If you see this message, where do you find serial number on this 1988 World Sport? Thank you.

I liked the Cannondales that we started getting in the shop I worked at in the early 1990s. Beautiful paintwork, good quality bikes. (The shop was in France, I was doing a work-placement). I need to find a rear derailleur for this bike my spring is shot please someone help .
@JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder4 жыл бұрын
Hi, You can find inexpensive rear 6/7 speed derailleurs on most major online retailers, such as Amazon. I suggest not getting a Shimano RD-TZ31 (flat face), they are functional but not durable since the body is plastic. Things to look for are that the derailleur is rated for the number of gears on your big cog, and whether you need a direct mount or bracket mount. If you want a vintage one to match the bike, eBay is probably your best bet. Good luck!
@matwheeler6454 жыл бұрын
They call it a 12 speed, but the usable gears are 10 or less. At 4:30 you have the worst combo.
@JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder4 жыл бұрын
Indeed. When you account for avoiding cross chaining, it does reduce the usable combos. I'm always trying to do better, so would you be willing to tell me specifically what you didn't like at 4:30. (The sound was sketchy throughout, I know).
@matwheeler6454 жыл бұрын
You have the worst chain angle (= wear) with big ring front and rear, also small ring front and rear is also bad. It can also be dangerous because the drive system is not designed for it. I try to use 8 speeds max. The geometry on your WS is the same as the touring model Voyager (per catalog). Put center pull brakes on and you have a a great poor mans touring bike. That is what I am planning for mine.
@matwheeler6454 жыл бұрын
Also the crankset looks like it could be tapped for a third chainring, but you would probably need a longer crank spindle and front and rear derailleur. Easier to rob a wrecked MB.
@JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder4 жыл бұрын
Ah, I misunderstood. I thought you didn't like something at 4 min 30 sec. I've ridden it times now and it works great as long as I pay attention to which gear is where. Thanks for the input.
