TheWiscoGuyz I got a problem my pulley gots play but pump still works also I noticed the bracket that holds the pump is missing 2 bolts in the bottom or the they broke off and the thread is in there still I think so my truck serpentine belt keeps wanting to slip off even after I replaced the belt tensioner and pulley and put a new belt so what I’m trying to say is all I need is a new pump pulley and those 2 bolts and my serpentine belt problem will be solved?
@TheWiscoGuyz
@TheWiscoGuyz 5 жыл бұрын
@@Dixonyass-g8v I would say at that point i would replace everything power steering related, if its got play in the pulley its probably on it way out. If the bolts are missing thats the best case Ontario. If they are broken they would have to be extracted. That my take some time. Replace the power steering pump, pulley, pressure line and return line, get new bolt to mount it, and last a new belt. I had a jeep with a 5.2 v8 that had a power steering pulley loose and the pulley shot out of the engine bay on to the road then into a farmers field. I was one my way to fix it. About a 1/4 mile from the shop.

I'm debating about swapping mine out again. This pump isn't that old, but I hate noises coming from my engine. Yours had been going bad for sometime till it was totally empty, so mine has just a small play when the pulley is attached. I wish you would have shown just a little bit more after the install by grabbing the pulley and showing the difference. Good instruction though.

its a good idea to unhook the battery before starting the truck. but seriously the pump isn't electrical and 12v DC isn't going to shock you unless your licking the battery posts. there's no point in detaching the battery.

Just did a GMC Bus at work and was curious how other people went about it. Make life much easier, unbolt the tensioner, (1 bolt) then get the other two bolts on the Mount and pull the pump off with the Mount. Then you can pull the pulley off and install it on a bench outside the vehicle.

Once you have your fluid put in. Jack up the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground and with the engine off but key on... Turn your steering wheel left all the way to lock and right all the way to lock, turn the wheel lock to lock around 10 ten time. Then set the truck down and check fuild. Then start the truck and see if it whines... If it does... repeat the process till the power steering is quiet. If it quiet your good to go. Just make sure you keep checking the level of the fluid.
