1989 Alfa Romeo 33 1.7 8v Cloverleaf Veloce Barn Find Restoration

In 2015 we unearthed a 1989 Alfa Romeo 33 1.7 8v Cloverleaf Veloce which had been dumped in a garage and abandoned for several years.
It went through quite a transformation while we had it, from a barn-find basket-case through to a head-turning, usable classic. It was, eventually, a pleasure to drive and worth each and every drop of the blood, sweat, tears, money and hours which were poured into its recommissioning. This video documents a small part of that journey.

Great cars I had several of these. Apart from the savage rust problem they were all reliable. One was exactly the same as this except in this amazing dark metallic green as standard, which I later saw on a 156. It was also a 1990 model on an H plate making it extremely rare - I was so proud of that one. I sold it in the year 2000. After that I got my first mark 2, 16 valver. The 33 was a rival for any Gti , especially with me behind the wheel.

What is the H plate you are talking about that makes it so rare? Thinking of buying a 1990 1,7 but my knowledge about Alfa 33 is like zero🤣

I had a black one. (G-reg) Changed the alloys to tsw blades, lowered it and had a booming sound system. I loved my Alfa! 😀

I used to have one of these cars. So much fun to drive and nicely styled interior. Unfortunately a mechanic came to try and fix a running issue and destroyed it. First they left a screw driver in spark plug hole when they were finding tdc then left spark plug in the plug holder from checking spark. Then they decided to pour some fuel in the intake and turn the engine over. Cracked piston and set the engine bay on fire at the same time... Problem eventually turned out to be rusted away earth line for fuel pump in the boot but the motor was too far gone...

The most fun car that I owned was a 33 Boxer quadra foglia verde or a alfa 33 green clover leaf the only other as fun was a 156 Clover leaf. Really a fun car with its wonderfull boxer engine

Much as my South African Sud with the Sprint Veloce engine, is the dog's............... , I'm so glad you saved that. People are suggesting I should put that engine in my Sud, but with a Series 2 gearbox in it, I reckon it would be under 7.5 to 60 and the brakes and my driving skill, maybe aren't up to that 😂

Am one year into the same project. Found my 1987 8V I sold 15 years ago. It as in a paddock, sans engine and box, rust everywhere. It had been such a sweet ride. I bought the wreck for $200, found the person with the motor and box and bought those back for $200, rust is now cut out and about to start on re-spray. Any tips about what paint system to go with would be appreciated.

I almost,swapped my X/19.For 33,exactly the same as that one in the mid 90’s. The,salesman tried to rip me off.So it didn’t happen.But I’ve always liked them. :)

thanks for this - i loved the Alfa 33 and before that the Alfasuds. Problem was that my X1/9 put me off buying a 33 (italian steel properties) so I brought a MG Maestro instead (doh). This really makes me regret that Great job

Suffolk Settler The you noticed the MG maestro had a far worse rust problem than the 33. And the mg was made of thin steel. The 33 was really solid thats what made it feel so rigid
