This will forever be the best Batman movie. Comic hero movies before this, even the successful one, could not understand the nature of the hero or the world. Burton understood the story board was the comic. Danny elfman brought it out further in an epic and dark orchestra. To understand this movie on its forever #1 podium look into the past. This did so many first, it had so many things done perfectly that it carried on as the definitive standards for many, many, years after.

Yes he is. I was just watching " Batman 1989" film on blu- ray dvd starring, Jack Nicholson, Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger and Robert Wahl.

It simply comes down to presence and I think Keaton had it here. Great actor and he definitely translated the integrity of the character, even if not aware of it. The Burton films shaped my childhood and I enjoy both his Batman films even today.

I hope i am not the only one, but in my opinion, the batman from 1989 and 1992 has something special than nolan's dark knight trilogy.maybe because every time i see this two movies it reminds me of my childhood years.... of course that the special effects where not as special than of these days, but doesn't really matter . i enjoy watching them everytime

As much as I absolutely love Batman Begins (best in the Nolan trilogy in my opinion) 89 Batman is another beast entirely. Even Gotham City is a character in that movie. Michael Keaton to me is the best of all the Batmans. Totally cool under pressure and he fears nothing; he makes Christian Bale look positively emo in comparison.

@@grzegorzchomka72 Correct. Bruce Wayne is the true mask hero behind the masked hero " Batman". Michael Keaton was unique in playing both Bruce Wayne / Batman to distinguish identities that were similar but opposite. He was playing a person with dual identities or an alterego. Danny Elfman passed away. Oh yeah he did didn't he. Danny Elfman did music for Batman 1989, Spiderman 2002, and Hulk 2003. He should have done music for Superman 1978. Superman's films had two great music artists. John Williams and Hans Zimmer.

I mean, they kinda went in a similar direction by casting Michael Keaton, another comedic actor. But I can see the problem with Bill Murray. He would be more likely to ad-lib funny remarks and I have trouble imagining him playing an intimidating Batman. It would have been like George Clooney with Batman being charming and funny and not taking anything seriously.

Michael Keaton probably wouldn't have done the film if Jack Nicholson wasn't in it, as he had always wanted to work with him and was just waiting for the right project to come along. Jack definitely stole the show, but if anyone else had played Batman the movie wouldn't have been as good as it is.
