For those of you new to my channel, I make videos of all things automotive, mainstay vehicles and off the wall vehicles, from brand new Lambos and Aston Martins, to classics and old beaters. The most automotive variety of youtube! In this video I give a full in depth tour of a 1989 Chevrolet s10 blazer. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this truck while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this truck designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

I miss my '92 S10. It was a HUGE rust bucket but VERY VERY fun to cruse in. And of course the people's reactions to it was priceless!

i am telling you from own experience. If you maintain this engine properly, it will never die. I have a 1985 and a 1993. The 85 has 268,000 miles and the 93 has 275,000 miles and still going. Best two cars i will ever own and will never regret buying them.

i agree with you, i had a '91 s15 jimmy 4 door,SLE,4X4. it was the best truck ever, it still was running excellent at 224,000 miles. i went to upgrade and wanted a ZR2 but didn't ever find one i wanted when going car shopping. I did get a 2001 blazer tho and still have it now. i love it just as much there is just something different about the 80's-90's one's that makes you regret getting rid of it..

Unfortunately the 2.8 was a pig in this truck. I waited and got the 4.3L ( which would become the Vortec in the 1991 model year. Night and day with the acceleration. The 4.3L was as reliable as they came back then too. GM still had some stake in the game. Now things are all over the place..

Wow man, thanks for posting this. I was born in 1989, and spent the first 10 years of my life growing up with this truck. Ours was a silver and black color, with pinstriping and it had the exterior spare tire on the back. Just seeing the radio, gauges, controls and sounds brought back years of memories, thanks! Over time, it was in need of replacement and my parents leased a brand new 1999 Chevy Venture which was also cool, but I'll always miss the Blazer lol.

I had the 2.8 in a 1991 Isuzu troooer mated to a 5 spd manual. I used that car to commute weekly from Chattanooga Tn to Asheville Nc. It was fun to try and drive a slow car fast! I was always changing gears! Truck would top out at maybe 90 mph on super flat freeway. But it always got me there.

yeah, so long as they fit. I should mention about the lifting of these. You can buy a body lift for fairly cheap, but as you may or may not know, those are a lot of work to instal, and require many extra parts (brake lines/fuel lines/wires/etc all have to be lengthened). You can also just crank the torsion bars up to get a few inches of lift, but this will put the cv axles at a bad angle, and you'll be going through cv joins left and right.

@@thekarlkeeper8727 haha a Canadian 2006 Smart Fortwo. They only offered them with the 0.8L turbo diesel here for 2005 and 2006. Haha this comment is 3 years. I crashed that car 1 week after I posted it. Someone came to a stop in the left lane on the highway because they were directly beside the exit they wanted. So the car ahead of me got rear ended by yours truly (they barely stopped and had better brakes than I did). So I was found at fault but not charged and shithead now seeing what he had caused decided he didn't want to sit there anymore and sped away never to be seen again. Now I have a 1989 Buick Reatta with the good ol' 3800 and a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am GT sedan with the 3300

These 2.8 blazers received fuel injection in 86. 85 was the last year for the carb on these. My 85 was the carbureted 2.8. If you think the 2.8 was slow and lacked power what would you think of the ones running the 2.5 liter iron dukes. Now getting to 60 took years. I loved these s-series blazers, the only thing that really sucked was the 700R4. Overdrive had some problem, that why a lot of people replaced them with the 350TH. The 700 did have a great low 1st gear.

@@silverjem That is to be said for all automatic transmission. Had a 4l60e in my Trailblazer. A ton of people complained about the reliability issues of those. They were in a lot of different GM models from full-size to mid-size. The factory coolers were not meant for much of any work. Aftermarket coolers are a must if you plan to use the vehicle's they are intended. Hauling, towing or off-roading. Each iteration of these transmissions got better along the way. They are still one of the better transmissions GM produced.

I am on my second S10 Blazer, with 2.8. These are amazing, they run well BUT the 2.8's are really slow slugs. My wifes 4 cyl Hyundai will run circles around it. I am currently thinking about a VW 1.9 TDI Swap. More power, incredible economy and the TDI can be mildly boosted with a larger turbo and injectors. With the extra power and torque the S10's 20 Gal tank and the incredible fuel mileage of the TDI (30++) I am looking forward to a positive outcome.

@jtreign9097 To get back to the original point. Some customers weren't that concerned about towing or 0-60 time. They probably just wanted their old cars' familiar body on frame construction and heavier but more robust suspension, which the passenger vehicles of the time, (under the pressure of increasingly stringent CAFE regulations) no longer offered.
@wotan20
@wotan20 13 жыл бұрын
This and its rival the Ford Bronco were the original SUV-s, when the term wasn't even invented yet, and when they were still in manageable size and down to earth. I mean these were bought by those, who were concerned about potholes and wanted something sturdier than the Chevy Celebrity, Ford Tempo and the like. Nowadays for this task the typical buyer demands a 4 to 5 tons monster with a 5-6 liter engine in it.

@jtreign9097 Not really, but not everyone who bought these were concerned about those points. They may wanted just a practical vehicle with stronger suspension over rougher roads. Don't forget that at the time its main passenger vehicle competitors were the Chevy Celebrity, Ford Tempo and the like, and consequently there were still lingering concerns about those (at the time newish) FWD vehicles' reliability and longevity.

@jtreign9097 I don't wish to en-lengthen our debate endlessly, but you appear to miss the point I made. While it's true that the Bronco was the S10;s perennial rival within its segment, at the time a lot of customers jumped from passenger vehicles to truck, because there was more familiarity between their old Ford Granada or a Chevy Malibu Classic to these trucks, than to their supposed, and industry designated replacements like the Chevy Celebrity or the Ford Taurus.

We once put a clutch in a strip down model s 10 the only real options was A/C and power steering. It was a performance clutch for a fiero but it worked fine. But we wrer kinda joking around about a performance clutch in a 2.8 S 10. But it had headers, cam,aluminium 4 BBL. intake fiero cast red valve covers. When he picked it up our builder asked and he said it was bored .040 aftermarket pistons ported heads bigger valves. When he left it sounded like somebody fired up a die grinder and then smoked both 255/60/15's all the way through 3rd gear side ways. [ About 1/8 mile ]
