1989 FLEER ERROR BOX - Turn Back the Clock Tuesday

I bought a box on eBay and found the FF card, sent it to PSA and it came back a 10. I could not believe it. Also it’s the first card I’ve ever had graded. I found the Billy Ripken ff card website and found the case numbers it might be in. I can’t believe it was successful. The whole process was from start to finish was such a feeling of gratification and accomplishment.

Also I pulled it from a pack about halfway through the box. Not that that means much.

Love the Billy Ripken FF … it’s my 2nd favorite error… my favorite and the most iconic from my personal childhood … 1990 Donruss Juan Gonzalez reverse negative.

Sweet, opening one now, my box is same, was not wrapped, on pack 14, I pulled FF pack (same exact pack), but i have had 2 duble packs so far, I am slow opening. Hopefully get Another!!!!

The Ripken error is in cases before January 16 1989. That's when it was discovered.

I opened 4 boxes of these (36 pack boxes). I got one Griffey Jr., 10 Randy Johnson, 12 Ripken error cards, 9 Smoltz etc. But one ! I repeat ONE ! Griffey in those for boxes. They def had not been looked thru, I just have bad luck with 89 Fleer LOL! :-P

I remember buying a box as a kid for 50 bucks in 89 at a show. Guaranteed the FF card. Open the box infront of the seller and got all errors but the FF. He had to go 2 booths down and buy one for his guarantee. My mother was angry I spent money on that card.

Co-owned a card and comic shop in late 1980s...these wax boxes I believe were released in fall 1988...at a show remember selling wax cases for 3 times cost at $900 a case...frenzy to get that card...

I have watched a few breaks where they get the FF Ripken and the black out Randy Johnson is the RC they pull. That card must have been corrected really early!

This one is you got is not the most expensive card. The top 2 were the white out and partial white out. Corrected versions are the sometimes the better of the two.

Question...........I have a 89 Fleer sealed factory set with the number 8640-A....what does that tell me? Is it a clue of the FF Ripken or Marlboro sign Randy Johnson? I have had the set for 30+ years and I am tempted to rip it open

There are no Ripken errors in factory sets. They were already corrected by the time those were released.
