I had both an 86 gl1200, and a 94 gl1500 and loved them both! My problem is every bike I buy I fix all the issues the previous owner never bothered with, and then sell the bike for the same amount I buy it for! Not a really solid investment strategy....

I have an 89 Wing with 170k+ miles on it. Just had the water pump replaced. No problems. I switch between it and my 2018 Wing as my commute bikes. Love it! BTW, I get 40+ mpg on it. Biggest problem is sticking switches, like the cruise control! Electronic cleaner becomes a great friend!
@slimjim74115 жыл бұрын
Yeah must be a Honda thing my 29 year old Shadow needs the turn signal switch cleaned ever so often or they start acting wonky. Another trick I learned about electronics on a motorcycle if you want to avoid down the road problems is dielectric grease in all the electrical connections. It keeps water out so they don't corrode, and then you have to track down where the short is.

I have a '99 model. Getting all of the hoses replaced and thermostat now. Costing a small fortune in labor. Enough to buy another motorcycle. Runs good but I wish I could get 40.mpg. I can only get 30 out of mine with all new tires AND a tuneup still only gets 30. Have to fill up every 120 miles.

Grew up loving bad-ass choppers and racebikes. Finally at the age where i feel mature enough to ride bikes. For some reason i keep going back to a Honda Goldwing. Sure it's not hip,doesn't look dangerous or extravagant. But tbh...that's not what i'm after. I want to be able to sporadicly take a bike and do a 6 hour trip without breaking myself. Riding a bike should be relaxing at your terms. This type of motorcycle is actually exactly that for me. My granddad had several bikes. He's choppers were super cool but they gave me a headache and jointpain. The trips we made on he's Goldwing(exactly this model) were the most memorable to date. Wish me luck finding a solid one!

Funny that you mentioned radio being stuck on mute. Mine was like that for so long and it irritated the hell out of me, even though I never actually use it. In my case, there was something about parking the bike with the handlebars all the way to the left that would make the radio mute. When I make it a point to turn the bars all the way to the right before starting the bike, mute usually goes away. Weird.

With any cruise control you have to turn it on first before hitting the "set". There should be a button there that turns it on and you should see a light on the dash. At 10:23 I can see the button that says "on/off" and I'm pretty sure you didn't press it. As for reverse, this is one of the few bikes that has it, and mainly because it's just so huge and heavy, it can really help with getting in and out of parking spots, or as you said if you accidently pull down to park on an incline. It's pretty hard to paddle walk an 850 lb bike backwards uphill. I have a hard enough time on my twin and wish it had it. Old Goldwing's are definitely becoming the old classics that people buy simply because of the nostalgia, then they ride them and have the time of their life. If I had enough garage space, I'd probably get one just for that reason. I've seen quite a few 80s and 90s models for sale (cheap!) that are in absolutely mint condition. It would be a blast. With the air vent in the windshield I think that black clip unlocks it, then you can open it. Good luck with the sale! Better get some gas!

Hey Sean!! Great vid as always. I see this vid is 2 years old, so I’m guessing you’ve gotten more education on ‘wings, but just wanted to help you if need be. Cruise: single button is off/on. Should light up on the dash when it’s on. I believe there’s a gear threshold as well as a speed threshold. I think it’s 4th gear and 30 mph at a minimum. Bottom button of the 2 is set/coast, top one is resume/accel. Suspension, the book SAYS not to air it up other than on the center stand with the rear suspension unloaded. Looks like it aired up for you just fine nonetheless. Hopefully this helps you out if you hadn’t found out about this stuff yet. I’m with you! They’re a great bike! I’ve got a ‘95 SE in green with 25k on it. Just did timing belts last year for safety measure, but never a hiccup out of it. As smooth as pudding! Have a great day and Godspeed!!

Cruise control. top left button turns it on, bottom right button sets. The panel was missing the rubber grommets (easy fix).

I'm currently looking at a 91 1500 with matching trailer. It has 27000 miles on it. What should I look for? It's in beautiful condition and runs great. Any common problems with them?

Why not do some homework about the bike before doing a video? To use air compressor put the bike on center stand...not while riding on it. Only two carbs...not 35....lol....Side panel falls off....vent doesn't open....at least read the manual a little.

Straydogger because I have awesome people like you to give me that info and now I know. Thanks

Wing fan here. Honda used to say they should be able to do a million miles. More than this Biker will ever need, ha.

Best 'plastic fascia' restoration you can do? All the black ABS 'interior' plastic...do a 'scrub-down' with a good ABS headlight lens polish, like Mothers or Maguires...then after soft-buffing it out, treat it all with 303 Protectant. You can bring that cockpit back to 'like new' appearance, easy...and with old Goldwings...that interior you dismiss will actually increase the sale value to those who already have owned, or like Goldwings. My personal favorite is the 1982 Aspencade...probably the prettiest of the GL line they ever made...(oh, and if you get a 'stuck instrumentation switch', best solution is to put Marvel Mystery Oil in a 'drip can', and put a drop on the switch...it will clean it AND lubricate it to work 'like new' again)...that windshield and vent could stand a quick Mothers ABS Polish, too...would make the vent open up like it's supposed to...they stick because of oxidation. Proper maintenance is the KEY to Goldwings...let them get away from you here, and you'll spend a MONTH 'restoring' them!

every 5 years.... regardless of mileage. same with tires, 5 years... they are gone. car tire???? on back for MORE mileage? 175 65 16? 195 60 16 last for .... 35,000 miles? bike tires 827# weight limit... on an 800#+++ bike??? car tires 1100#+ weight limit. 32 PSI is plenty in tires, don't let tire shop.... buffalo u into ITS GOT TO HAVE MAX PRESSURE IN TIRES!!!!! OUR SHYSTERS TOLD US THAT!!!! Read the GD owners manual... 32/32 unless got 2 ppl on the bike then 42 in rear tire. unless u like it to ride like a Conestoga wagon with iron wheels. I like to have some RUBBER on the ground to stop and turn, more so that an inch of rubber when aired up to OH MY ACHING BACK 42 psi. Yes the tire wont last forever, check it often... as should do anyway and nuts/bolts especially after mechanic has worked on it as need BLUE thread lock on brake bolts to keep them from falling out (don't ask how I know this). MotoGP riders.... ~18 PSI to HAMMER ON IT out of the turns... in ~40 lap races... that Dunlop guarantees the MotoGP tires for... 20 laps? with 140# jockey on 250# bike that has 250 HP and goes to 19,000+ RPMs. Repsol Honda can be steered (somewhat) carrying the back tire into the turns, the others (engineers) haven't quite figured that one out
