'89 mx6 I've owned since '00. The F2; not the F2T. The oil & water were mixing through the head gasket, so I replaced it. I decided to record it just to keep me from dragging my feet too much. Thanks for watching. Enjoy.

Little late in replying, but I have a 1990 MX6 GT Turbo. My timing belt broke at 95mph... Nothing bent or damaged. They are definitely non-interfering...

I used new head bolts because I already had them in stock. I could have used re-used the old ones. ARP studs would be nice, but I don't need them for this car (not boosting). Thanks.

Quick question... I have a Turbo and my head gasket just went out 278,634 in miles. I love this car and was thinking of doing it myself, but all book and online info says it can't be done by the DIY mechaninc and they recommend a shop? Any ideas why? Looks basically the same set up as your with the exception of the throttle body and added turbo/intercooler???

Did you end up doing the work yourself? Did you ever find out what the difference is between the Turbo and Non-Turbo models?

this was the second time replacing a head gasket on an mx6. we've had a few of them. the first time I tried separating the intake before I took it of the block. This was easier.

My thought is that with strange electrical problems like this check the ground. Make sure the battery ground has a clean, tight connection to the chassis. If a ground is weak, over amping different components is very easy to do and sometimes seems random in nature. Make sure your motor is grounded; check all the ground eyelets that they haven't loosened up or corroded over time. I'm sure a Mazda dealer or parts store would be happy to help you out with this problem too.

Thats awesome, i need to fix mine up i have a 1990 mx6 turbo version, and need to replace some things, im having some trouble with some vacuum line right now, and its running rough.

I know this is an old post...but how long did it take you to do this? Was this your first time working on the mx6? Mine just over heated for the first time ive ever had it...would love to rebuild the engine!

It took me one afternoon/evening to pull it out. Dropped off head in morning to resurface. Installed that night. I think I buttoned it up the day after. So it took me a few days between my jobs. AS for your turbo motor, i'd prefer not using it unless you have time and money. more parts to break, guzzled gas and was too easy to abuse. I'm satisfied with my naturally aspirated car for a daily driver.

How long of a process was it for you? Im debating on whether i should be buying an engine rebuild kit and do the work or not..i love this car, but i have the F2 in a car, an F2T out of a car (both needing rebuild) and a turbo that needs a rebuild lol...but for someone like me , who's never done it but has shop manual / mechanically inclined, how long would you estimate?

The throttle body is for a turbo model - I jumped the vacuum lines to make it work. Good eye.

My 1989 626 with a Non-Turbo 2.2L started over heating, I added coolant an thought it would be fine. It over heated again and this time I noticed it was blowing air bubbles out of the top of the radiator when adding more coolant. Is there a detailed video on how to line the timing belt up correctly?
