This team was the culmination of P J Carlisimo's great work at comparatively small Seton Hall, a "neighborhood" University in the village of South Orange, NJ, a suburb of Newark. Carlisimo's work in building this program, putting these players together and his outstanding coaching was something to see. Its a shame his NBA career got derailed with that ridiculous incident with Spreewell. This team brought a lot of pride to South Orange/Maplewood and I will never forget going over to the campus to welcome them back the night they returned from Seattle.

I'm a Michigan fan and I agree it was a bad call but it hardly made things easier for Michigan. Instead of a fairly easy shot for Terry Mills, they were putting a lousy free throw shooter on the line for a one and one.

Glen Rice was simply unstoppable! I watched every game of Michigan's run that year and I remember Dean Smith saying when u have a guy hitting shots from the outer reaches of the Galaxy it doesn't matter how many guys u put on him! The thing I remember after that game was how Sean Higgins' potential fell off the wagon! He was a dominant supporting cast member during that tournament and we never saw that level again! I was surprised at how much of a disappointment he turned into! I think his head got in the way

That night I was working in a small radio station about 90 miles west of Chicago when the phone rang. It was a caller claiming to be from an Australia radio station asking for a live update about the game, as Andrew Gaze and his family were basketball legends down under. I told him it was late in the second half and not looking good for Gaze and Seton Hall. He said he would call back in a few minutes. Just then Gaze hit some key buckets and Seton Hall had pushed the game into overtime. When the guy called back and I told him the news, he went bonkers. Apparently it was early morning in Sydney and he had a national radio audience hanging on his every word. I gave him the play by play of the entire OT while watching it on TV. Such a breathless random moment; I will never forget it.

Enberg, Packer on NBC. Then 2 years after Coach Mc Guerrero retired they asked if he wanted to join them. He agreed but when it started Al was a sideline guy. He and the others were not understood. They said we want him calling game with us. You can't have 3 announcers? MONDAY NIGHT Football does. It took 2 more weeks but he finally was brought in and was as good as it gets un any sports. Enberg and his bubbly setup was to Packer giving the story then going to The Coach and asking him his thoughts. Al would just give his opinion on the way he day it going. He knew the coaches and most players in his first 2 years. Coach Al was always coaching to kids playing and watching. Tony Kubiak was on NBC baseball in 70s as the 2nd team crew but was always great at asking for another shot of replay to show 'you young kids out there. This is how you want to do this".

Bo Schembechler was an absolute legend as athletic director when he said it in anger and rightfully so " I DO NOT WANT SOMEBODY FROM ARIZONA STATE COACHING A MICHIGAN TEAM AND I WANT THAT UNDERSTOOD. I was a senior in high school in nearby Tacoma about 40 miles south of where they played the 1989 Final Four @ the Kingdome in Seattle. Thanks for putting this on KZbin! A great game, although the foul against Seton Hall was not a foul at the end in Overtime, but Rumeal Robinson made sure he made the 2 most important free throws in his basketball playing career.
