My brother Nelson became a Jets fan in 1970. He died in 2009. He lived for the green. I'm a Giants fan, but I want to see the Jets win a Super Bowl for him.

The early 80's Jets still my favorite era,Toon Walker, the sacks exchange,the Jersey the Helmet. So many up and down but still better than last 5-6 seasons.

Been a New York Jets fan since 1967. Some good decades and some that left me scratching my head. Maybe they will eventually make to another Super Bowl. It will take a total team effort.

wonder if that tiny little bobble caused him to keep his eye on the ball a bit longer to secure it and not be able to brace himself or avoid most of that brutal hit. If he catches that clean perhaps he doesn't get hit so badly

Small error, when the Jets beat the Raiders in the 82 playoffs narrator Jeff Kaye said "the Jets beat the defending Super Bowl Champs" but they weren't that year, the 49ers would have been the defending champions during the 1982 season.

Yeah, they were off by a year, the Raiders would've been defending champs in '81 in the last year of their first go-around as an Oakland franchise.

if jets had stayed at shea stadium freeman mcneil would be in the hall of fame. that giants stadium turf destroyed him. also at 6:03 thats a mistake the raiders werent defending super bowl champions

Joe Walton was under a lot of pressure in 1989 and when things got worse he began cutting players, bringing players in and cutting players which is ridiculous.

Ironically, the Jets have made it to the AFC Championship Game once in each of the past 4 decades: 82, 98, 09, 10. I'm not sure many other franchises can say that as far as reaching a conference championship. Pittsburgh (70s as well). Denver (70s as well). New England. Minnesota (60s and 70s as well). New York Giants. The difference is that between 1985-2018, Pittsburgh, Denver, and New England advanced to the Super Bowl 22 times (11-11 in the Super Bowl). The Jets lost to Miami, Denver, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh. The Giants advanced to the Super Bowl in the 80s, 90s, 00s (2x), and 10s. Like the Jets, the Vikings are hapless, losing in 87 (Was), 98 (Atl), 00 (NYG), 09 (NO), and 17 (Phi).

We can never get passed the championship . I always feel like the jets play really good in the playoffs and always pull off upset wins but never good enough to win the afc championship game .

​@@rustykuntz94 Carl Howard flew into Kosar up high at the exact same time Gastineau did. Mark got the penalty (likely due to reputation alone) but really two guys crushed Kosar late. Howard doesn't get any grief but his actions were really just as bad. If Gastineau was a step slower then that flag is on Howard

Injures really crippled and hurt that 1989 team. Plus the defense was ranked next to last in the NFL. It didn't help that defensive coordinator Bud Carson left after 1988 for the Cleveland Browns head coaching job. Ralph Hawkins replaced him and I have no idea who he was.

NFL FILMS would do this when a team had a terrible season like the Jets did in 89, they would do a decade review or team retrospective instead of just that season's recap

@@rustykuntz94 Yeah, they also did a retrospective for the Falcons that same year as well that looked back on their entire history (instead of focusing on their dismal 3-13 season in '89) since the upcoming 1990 season was their 25th overall.

The 1989 season was really bad and embarrassing. I'm glad when they named Dick Steinberg general manager because the last time NYJ had a general manager was 1977. He cleaned house firing head coach Joe Walton and making front office changes.

I was at their only home win of 89 against Atlanta late in the year. JOE MUST GO was chanted all game even with them winning LOL

Nothing like 80 s football in ny giants were good jets were so but I think 1982 and a and 1986 they went to the championship same year as the giants 1986

Uggh as a die hard Jets fan 89 was one of their worst years and they've had plenty of miserable seasons. These NFL Films highlight season reviews always could try and make a terrible team look like world beaters. That's why they cut this into a decade in review more than a full season retrospective.
