My grandad had a 505 GTI turbo until the late 90's... The dash was just like that, even I remember the glass being kind of "brown", and the interior in some sort of very smooth brown cloth as well, the car was a very dark metallic brown/grey as well, with alloy wheels, had AC, power windows, etc... I remember it as a very elegant car. Had some kind of problem with the rear axle due to mileage and he bought a new car in '99, it was left parked next to the house. Not many days after that, many people from morroco came asking for it, we ended giving it to them just to avoid people asking for it that often, even it didn't had any value at the time, said they'd make a diesel taxi from it.... hahahaha I was a kid at the time, now it makes me feel kind of sad not having kept it, but back then it was a nonsense and nothing I could really do something about, grandad says it was a very good car, even it drank quite some fuel...

Had one i got in jersey about 15 years ago. Replaced the bad turbo, and added a front mount intercooler, and turned the boost up a little. Pulled pretty damn good. Anything less than 20w 50 oil and it would smoke. Wish i still had it, i would have restored it. It was all black 4 door 5spd, and painted the rims black. I was planning on adding a few cold start injectors on hobbs pressure switches and turning the boost up even more, but ended up getting rid of it.

One should always allow the engine to warm-up on the manuals or drive gently with the autos.....Cylinder head cracking between the cylinders is common on the NT9 if one gets on the boost with the engine not yet warmed up.
@ebaynelson8 жыл бұрын
D McNamara Yes, I have seen several cracked N9T cylinder heads. I always let this car idle for a few minutes before driving at all, and waited until both coolant and oil reached normal operating temperature before really opening up the throttle. This video starts several miles into a joyride.
@dmcnamara98598 жыл бұрын
I have a black 1987 Turbo 5 Speed Base version...which are a little quicker....since they are about 200 lbs lighter and body much stiffer without the sunroof,AC compressor,etc. I've had it since the early 90s....it has close 400,000+ miles on it. Only thing I've done is have a valve-job done on it when I first got it, and replaced the front and rear main seals when the clutch started slipping at around 300,000 miles. Custom stuff? Installed a Turbo Diesel Automatic 2.79 ring and pinion and speedo worm gear. In 5th gear.....70mph is just under 2,000 rpms. Gets about 31-32mpg on runs to the LA basin from Northern California. Filled in the sills with spray expanding foam....its super quiet...road noise-boom almost non-existent. I replaced the commonly leaky Peugeot oil temp sensor.........with a oil pressure sending unit....by tapping in SAE threads. So mine reads oil pressure in run-mode rather than oil temp like yours. I also use a dirt-cheap 125 amp GM alternator...........conversion I've done to each 504,505 I've ever had.......just a few tweaks to the GM housing...........Peugeot wiring plugs and nuts down.......no cutting of wires,etc. required. Added benefit? Much higher voltage 14.5+ at idle regardless of load....try that with a German/French one.......never in a million years.
@dmcnamara98598 жыл бұрын
Also when I finally installed a AC compressor and bracket from a donor Turbo in the mid 1990s........I had some R134 hoses made. The AC condenser(from a Suburban) is mounted where the spare tire carrier would be. It blows ice cold even on 100+ degree days at idle. Puddles of water...constantly drip. That's the way AC should be. All North American bound 505s came with AC evaporators installed in France......even if they did not have AC. The usual $20.00(wholesale price) new Ford blower assembly (slightly larger mouse-cage) mounted in the Peugeot HVAC housing. The amount of air it pushes through the vents puts the Peugeot blower-motor to shame. And.....elimination of Peugeot clutch-fan and radiator....Instead I run a massive GM 4 row radiator....radiator shop brazed 2 fan- switch housing on and return for Turbo coolant line. Cooling hoses are all universal and dirt-cheap at any auto parts store. I run a front-mounted RWD Volvo inter-cooler which blows a larger and denser charge of air compared to the Peugeot one. A large quiet aftermarket electric fan is used for the radiator just in case....it rarely ever comes on to begin with. And relocation of the ignition module( the GM one used on XN6s and millions more on every GM product) to the headlight assembly area. Strut mounted Bosch units can be troublesome and expensive to replace. Variation in engine-compartment temps won't effect its performance up front where much cooler air runs over it.No wires were cut in the transformation.....just a one-off pig-tail loom I made.
@rogersimon35728 жыл бұрын
Regards to the A/C condenser. Is it mounted under the trunk(boot) floor where the spare tire would be, in a horizontal position? I would like to know some more on this custom fit...length of hoses, fan etc.

That car is much faster than that. Push pedal further, shift a little later. A 505 turbo shouldn't see 5th gear till around 85 or 90 mph. Accelerating. Then you still got close to 40 mph to go after that. Otherwise the eager 505 turbo will just get bored with your driving style. And it won't be happy. I know because my old `85 is still happy after 24 years of spirited driving.
@ebaynelson3 жыл бұрын
This was as spirited a drive I was willing to make on a heavily patrolled stretch of road with a 45mph limit. :)
@dmcnamara98593 жыл бұрын
udabuoda: That Chrysler engine does not like to be revved above 4,500. I should know,I had a 87 505 Turbo for 20yrs. I don't know what you define as fast.It had too much Turbo Lag down low........but once up on boost it would then quickly reach those revs I just mentioned. And 505 and 604 get sketchy above 130mph....back of the car gets light.....fastest I ever got my Turbo was 145, racing a Mustang 5.0 on the Southbound stretch to LA. Only if the winds were calm,was it "safe" to do highway stupid stuff. I also had the advantage of swapping in turbodiesel automatic 3.08 pumpkin and speedo worm which turned it into a highway lugger......70mph was less than 2,000 in 5th gear. mileage was decent fro something shaped like a brick 30-32 on Interstate cruises.
